Snow is melting here.
kids are out of school again. yesterday due to inclement weather, today due to massive power outages in the county.
out of all the counties in the state, we experienced the most outages... over 35,000. statewide (last I saw reported) was 150,000+

we (luckily) still have power... but no cable or internet. they said to expect outages though, as they may need to shut off our grid to restore power to others... then will turn ours back on. I hope it doesn't happen, but its a possibility.

I hope everyone and their loved ones are OK!

Glad everyone here is ok and my thoughts go out to those who have lost people. I think the death toll is close to 140 now with many more injured and the problems will continue as infrastructures are rebuilt.

I saw that Michael Brown, the moron responsible for the S L O W response to Katrina, critisized the response to Sandy as "too fast".

You know...at 1st read all I could say was "really...too fast?" Then I re-read it. He was making a point that most people would have missed. Obama is looking for votes. He wants America to see how fast he reacted to the storm not the Benghazi attacks. He carried on to Las Vegas immediately. Yes he was painfully slow at Katrina.....but I think it was slightly taken out of context.

I would think that reacting fast to something happening on our own soil to our own residents would be the right way to go. No matter what you want to read in to it, he acted as he should have. Brownie wouldn't have a clue about that now, would he?

And the debris is reaching the shores over here in Brooklyn...

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/75000-79999/78191/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1039796.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/75000-79999/78191/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1039796.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

Anything from parts of homes, to personal property, yard furniture, toys, signage from businesses, etc.

Even signs from Sea Bright - NJ, whichs is 25 miles away, are showing up on the shore in Bay Ridge Brooklyn.

Even in context, Michael Brown is the last person that should offer up criticism regarding the speed of the Federal government's reaction to a disaster like this. I think there were a lot of lessons learned from the mishandling of relief after Katrina. I surely hope so anyway.

And why does your candidate get a pass on this? Obama does something presedential and he's accused of just trying to look presendtial. Romney holds a fake relief event and you're ok with that? Can't politics take a back seat for just one week to consider the horrible human toll this storm has had?

Are you comparing NJ to Libya? Really?

Nice way to have politics take a back seat...
President Obama acted promptly, if not preemptively, to minimize the time required to get relief to those affected by Sandy.
Governor Romney held a relief event to help provide necessities for those affected by Sandy, and his campaign contributed towards the goods, as well as ordinary everyday folks.
And, most importantly, friends and neighbors have gone out of their way to help each other.
Good on them all, I say.

No, I am pointing out that both NJ and any of our embassies are part of our sovereign territory, and both contain(ed) our citizens - they are the same - not just comparable.

After doing some research, I have discovered that I am, technically, incorrect. Per //diplomacy.state.gov/discoverdiplomacy/diplomacy101/places/170537.htm, Paragraph 3b & following:
"While an embassy remains the territory of the host state, under international rules representatives of the host country may not enter an embassy without permission—even to put out a fire.

Because an embassy represents a sovereign state, any attack on an embassy is considered an attack on the country it represents."
