ETA: Wow. they must have really been inundated with requests and/or perceiving a lot of risk of market share loss or they wouldn't be announcing development of a firmware update six months ahead of the anticipate release date.

the bitter part is the time frame, and non-inclusion of the red AF fix that the 1dx is getting. i was really hoping to see that, because it makes sense and while the current systen isnt all that bad, it would be better.
PS: with regards to clean hdmi, magic lantern showed that it can be done. D800 already had it. I don't hate them for their marketing strategy, but its still a little annoying to that irrational side of me that thinks the only reason Canon even gave us this much was because they kept getting showed up

Ahh...the time frame.
I think this is directed at the people doing video work. Canon announced their Canon C100, which was suppose to be a step up from the 5Dm3 as far as video was concerned. Unfortunately, they've cut too many corners on it to make it a decent upgrade for those that have all the bits and pieces (Shoulder rigs, external audio etc) that they've had since the 5Dm2 video went crazy. Someone realized that the 5Dm3 owners won't be making an upgrade to the C100...if anything, it would be to the BlackMagic Cinema Camera.
I don't know what Canon is thinking addressing video issues before photo issues. The clean HDMI out from the D800 is still not great, it has moire and aliasing worse than the 5Dm2 IMO. You still need an external recorder...it's all fun to read and learn though.. |
