I was making a joke. I'm aware of the details of the claims around this.

the main reason why so many of you are upset is religion. if this new law school was going to be set up to train women to be lawyers and fight for issues that are important to women, everyone would be all for it. a law school for any other distinct group in society (minorities, gays, etc.) to fight for issues they feel important would be praised.
those who feel strongly opposed and threatened by the CR law school and their anti-abortion training should open a pro-abortion law school specifically designed to fight the same issues.
just because you open a school doesn't mean that actual changes in the law will take place. you still have to go through the judicial process. |

***Well, yeah, that's exactly the point. From what I have read on the subject, the CR is trying to control all parts of the government: judicial, legislative, executive branches for the purpose of being able to more easily pass through their religious agenda. Do Christian fundamentalists believe that all aspects of social life are subordinate to the Bible and Christian way of life and that even the law of the land is second to Christian fundamentalist beliefs? Have Christian fundamentalists in the past murdered doctors and women getting abortions? Have there been Christian Right groups that have aligned themselves with white supremecy groups and values? I don't think any of the groups you've mentioned above have any ill intentions towards anyone, yet it can be argued that the Christian Right leaders promote hatred and fear towards anyone with differing philosophies to their own. |

Except for the "religious" descriptor on "agenda" you could just as easily substitute "liberal" for "CR" and it would ring just as true. You surely see that the liberal-minded folks WOULD like to control all parts of the government, don't you?

Why yes, I believe they do. Don't atheists believe that all aspects of social life should be completely bereft of religious overtones? Don't they want to force Christian fundamentalists to divest themselves of religion upon exiting their homes? And don't they want to make it "the law of the land"?

Yeah, that has happened, but not as often as pregnant women or Postal workers being murdered by mainstream ( non-fundamentalist ) "Christians".

Probably, but then the white supremecy groups already had a rather larger number of non-fundamentalist members to start with.

No, they promote distrust and fear. Distrust because, well, non-fundamentalists are not guided by the Holy Spirit. Fear because, well, they don't want to see society become so depraved it would lead to a repeat of the fire and brimstone that destroyed Sodom and Gommorrah.

i see this whole thing as a lack of faith in the democratic system. if most people think christian fundamentalist are wacko, then not much of what they believe will happen because the majority won't let it.
if you are worried that the right wing politicians will pass all the christian fundamentalist's beliefs through the government system, then don't vote for the people that will favor like policies.
the problem is that there are plenty of people that are going to vote for politicians that favor christian fundamentalists, and they are going to vote because of this.
plenty of people in the US still view religion as a very important aspect. both political sides realize this. why do you think kerry likes to be seen in churches during his campaign? certainly going to church doesn't make you a fundamentalist, but most church going people would be for many of the views of this law school.
