Okay, this is a bit of a stretch, but I need a royalty-free photo of an igloo for a project. This subject appears to be a difficult one to find on the usual stock sites, so I'm wondering if anyone here happens to have one? Of course, I'm expecting to pay a license fee. Thanks in advance. |

do you mean like an igloo cooler for drinks or the igloo shelter made of ice blocks?

I think he means the little snow houses that we Canadians spend all our winters in.

Now Beagleboy... don't be too hard on James... down here in Texas, igloos only come in certain sizes...from a six pack to a case... ;o) LOL

Ah, reaffirmation of my reluctance to ever get into the business of charging money for my photography. Even when there is a customer willing to pay for an image, there is always someone out there willing to do it pro bono. If images of this quality are given away, there is no hope for me. |

Out of curiosity, what would you charge to use the image? It's not my reluctance to charge, it's my lack of knowledge on how and how much to charge.

Assuming you release it with a standard royalty-free license, you could get between $40 and $80 for an image like that, depending on filesize.

Visiblanco's reply seems reasonable. Anytime I have a question as to what a professional photographer would charge for a particular type of royalty-free image, I just go here, to corbis.com. |

Darn. You just got me in the 2 weeks of Canadian Summer, where we live outside with our pet beavers and make repairs on our snowsleds. Igloo (construction) Season beings in 2 weeks. Can you wait eh? |

joanns -- That might just work, but I need to contact the client to see if that's what they had in mind. If they want to use it, I'll broker for you. No sense in giving it to me free, since it's actually for a 3rd party, though I certainly do appreciate the offer.
MeThoS -- all of those are rights managed, and the royalty-free ones aren't really igloo shots. Sorry, no free membership ;) |
