But doesn't adding another inch of depth and another 110grams of weight, (for the adapter), kind of defeat the purpose of buying a smaller body in the first place?
Infact the EOS-M with the adapter is only 3-4mm shallower than a 1xxxD series DSLR and only about 90grams lighter. For that 90 grams of extra weight you get faster focusing, an OVF, PASM dial, native support for all EOS lenses and it's only half the price.

It gives you flexibility, but you're right - slap a little camera on the back of a big lens, and you surely do not have a pocketable combination. Compatibility with EOS lenses will be important in the near term, as there are only two native lenses for the EOS-M. It would be less important in the longer term, assuming the system is successful.

Which is exactly why these don't work for me. Even the Powershot G11 was kinda big for my needs. It always looked like I was riding around on my bike with a load in my shorts.

I'm guessing the thinking goes something like
If you've got a load of canon gear you get this as a vacation easier to carry camera, but you are out with all your gear and the battery has gone on your 1dx and a velcorprator walks past so you can whip out your m and attach it to your 800mm and still get the picture.
I doubt they intend ppl to walk rd with L on it all the time |
