Yeah, did you ever finish your Settlers of Catan board?

I did! It gets lots of compliments every time it comes out.

OK! Pictures! It's done! Here's a shot of the front and back. You can click the links for full size. The final length is just shy of five feet.

Thanks guys. It was a fun project. I have enough wood for another. I might try using a better saw to see if I can get the miter joints better, but the ratty nature of the cuts actually doesn't hurt the presentation in this case.

What kind of saw did you use? Power Miter saw? If so, you might try a new blade with a few more teeth.

Another option is a manual miter saw

One trick is to slightly bevel the cut backwards by placing a few passes of duct tape on the saw's table. That 1/2 of a degree bevel will allow you to crush the leading edge fibers in. to mask any small errors in the joint angle.

Oh...a man thread...

Hmmmm...the frame seems so rustic for such a lovely polished image.

Just my two cents...

Back to male bonding!

Excellent idea. If anything these cuts were reversed and it was more open on the top than the bottom.

Excellent idea indeed! If you have a compound miter, it's a breeze, otherwise the tape works well too. If there was a little reverse bevel, it's possible the miter saw needs adjustment. But with old wood like that, any lack of straightness in the board can make for problems.

Jason decorates his man-cave well. ;-)
