Just a quick thought. I know that there are some benefits to using .png files as opposed to .jpgs -- but I don't honestly know what they might be (or reasons not to use them either). Wondered if anybody had any input as to whether or not it might be a good idea to talk about suing them as well as .jpgs for submission purposes.

png's would tend to be bigger for equivalent quality (lossy vs lossless
encoding, as far as I know)

The main advantage of png is support for alpha (transparancy) channels,
which doesn't have any real use on dpchallenge.
