These discussions in the scores threads about what is or is not an abstract may be construed as an attempt to sway voters and seem inappropriate here. Better to have these discussions before voting starts. :-/

I didn't feel that way, but you have a good point. I will delete my earlier post.

This is hilarious. I should know better than to enter this sort of challenge.

Yeap me too... From 6.9 to 6.6 in three votes... It was nice to flirt with a personal best, even if it was only for an hour...

I just dropped a large amount as well. A 1, 2 or 3 can have a huge effect at this early stage. There are a few folks who are very hard to please. That's their choice.

just dropped .5 in 3 votes. WOW.
Looks like i could be bringing home another brown ribbon. I really thought this one would do better.

Hmmm.... didn't see this coming. Must reflect some DNMC votes. Looks abstract to me, but what do I know? (Evidently nothing.)

Wow! I attribute this drop to the discussions in this thread about what is or what isn't. Not very nice people, nor open minded, about creative interpretations of the challenge. Wish I hadn't bothered to enter a good image which is abstract. No comments... so just votes which cut off at the knees. I still like my image and think it meets the challenge very well.

This is one of those hope to barely eek over 5 challenges.

I can't understand all the low scores there are some super duper pic's here, off to bed now and dreaming of a huge leap!

Voted on half I think, and commented on the ones that stood out for me so far, might comment on the mundane later, but not too many of them.

You know what, we should have more of these challenges!

No comment... so mine was mundane by your definition...

It's starting to go up which is a pity as I would love this shot to be my lowest score. It would be something to be proud of for me.

Dropped from an opening 7 to 4,6 during the discussions here. DNMC!
Must add that I'm no black and white fan and won't vote in this one.

I found a solution for all the strange votes, for the challenge rants, for all this kind of stuff: I don't care. I am having much more fun now, both when I get a good score and when my image gets hammered. I'm still happy when score is ok, but not worried or too disappointed when the image is not doing as I expected. Voters are unpredictable - enthusiasts, narrow-minded, full of anger, joyful - you can get a 10 and then three 1s... why should I bother for that? I mean, we can and we will, but not too much :)

I have a plain 6 right now :)

I have learned in my few years here that...

1. Your overall average here MEANS NOTHING.
If you have a 5.5 average, you're not a meh shooter. You're a photographer who has had many photos judged on many different scales and rule interpretations to have a 5.5 average in this little site.. A great photo that DNMC for instance should (in most cases) score lower than it deserves if the challenge theme was not taken into consideration.

2. Submit photos that YOU like.
Since the jmritz challenge, I think this even more. He's recognized and honored here with such a challenge, has a definite style, but his "average" is around 5.0000. Big deal. He does great work. And you can too. Just submit what you think is great and let the chips fall where they may.

Yes, this is definitely true... it's a matter of training yourself :)

I do have a complaint. I feel some people are voting based on the thumbnails abstract appearance. One thing I know for sure, this challenge was not about how abstract your thumbnail appears. As a matter of fact, fair voters will take some time to view the full size image each time they cast or change a vote. I strongly oppose voting on the thumbnail appearance only. I think that should be against the voting rules.

But you cannot vote on thumbnails until after you've voted on the full image...

really doubt that's happening. you have to open a thumbnail before you are even given an option to vote. once you vote on that image, you are directed to the next image, which is full sized. i can't see anyone voting, then going all the way back to the thumbnails page, voting on the thumbnail, then going back and repeating.

Naw! First of all, cherry picking can be done from the thumbnail displays before vote #1 is cast. But, then, zip voters can place a vote on images as fast as their bandwidth speed allows. Then, some go back and cherry pick +/- from the thumbnail display. It's a weakness of the system. I think this is unfair voting behavior.
