If you have a minute or two, I would appreciate
opinions on this beach sunset I shot a few days ago:
Particularly wondering if there is too much black (sand)
in the shot, and if the proportions look right.

Looks good, but here's my 2 cents:
Horizon wonky, but fixed by crop.
Try either a fast shutter to stop movement, or a reeeeaaaaalllly slow one to get that effect so often used with waterfalls. That may even out the light in the waves a bit more??? |

I don't know what it is about this imagine .. but I really like it. I love beaches and this picture makes me feel like I'm there .... I can almost hear the sound of the water.
I really like the colors but here are a few things I would improve (mostly mentioned) .. the horizon is a little wonky .. but you can fix this in almost any photo editing software. The water is great ... I like how the beach is wet and how you have another wave coming, but the water on the bottom left doesn't look great. As wimbello suggested .. either go for a fast shutter or slow .. further out the water looks great.
I too can see the people .. but only after I looked for them.
Once again .. great great shot .. it put a smile on my face.

I like the emphasis on form and texture -- perhaps more obviously seen in the thumbnail -- it makes a great abstract. I don't mind the mostly-dark tones, and am not even going to look for any people on the beach. I'd even consider making it darker to make sure they disappear.
Maybe I like it because the general composition and the sheen on the water reminded me of a macroscopic portrayal similar to my entry in the Water challenge a while ago.

Thanks for the comments all.
I added a note in the details:
It was hand-held at 1/13sec.
I completly missed that it needed a bit of rotation - Thanks cooliak
:)
I just added a second shot from the same day, a bit later, and had to bump the ISO to 160 (the E-10 gets a bit noisy here - UGH!) and again, was a hand-held shot at 1/20sec. I wasn't about to miss the spectacular colors that day!

The first shot is beautiful in it's own right... but that second one is just breathtaking! I love the colors and the mood it sets. I'm so glad you shared that with us! :o)

Brad, it looks right on, it has to be black to get what you want out of the sky & water. Nice shot...Van
Looks similar to this one I took in Florida last January. Mine needs to have some noise reduced though.

Hi Van,
Seems much of what we want to do, we can't due to the limitations of the camera. That shot is a bit noisy, but oh boy with the right camera...
Now to go stick $5 in my camera fund piggy bank!
