In light of all the other recent discussion threads - I think it is a good idea to create a thread where everyone who wishes to share can post websites that they have found helpful in learning the photo manip craft.

A great resource that I have utilized tips from (and I noticed another has too:-) )
Slo Dive 30 Photoshop Photo Manipulation Tutorials

Originally I posted this tutorial in the Superpowers II discussion thread
Designer Fix Photo Manipulation Tutorial

Both are presented in a clean and easy to follow steps.

Some excellent stuff in the link that you posted, I'm going to have to give some of those a whirl. I think this thread could be really useful so hopefully others will keep it going with tips.

probably the best advice i could give would be to shoot as much of the images as natural as you can, then what ever you cant do, Google for a how-to.

after you've been through the process a few time you pick up some tricks.

probably the best thing about expert editing and tutorials is learning little tricks and shortcuts that the generally standard workflow. i leaned most of what I know about the basics of photoshop as a side effect to working through tutorials.

Agreed, if you can get the action, lighting and poses right in the main shot or the few shots you need, it will make things all the easier. If one hopes to do it all in Post, it is very, very difficult and in some few cases uncorrectable.

Found another site that gives a good tutorial but it's bookmarked on other machine so will post when I can.

another trick i learned and should share as i just used in on an image. im sure lots of people may find it help in expert challenges.

i remember the issue coming up how a to make an image you cutout or mask out the background to not look to fake and well "cutout".

use whatever process you want to select/copy/paste and place your cutout into your scene. take that layer and duplicate it, now turn of the duplicated layer (the one on top) and apply a slight Gaussian blur original layer (the one underneath the turned off layer), this actually makes the image exceed its previous boundaries by blurring out past them. now turn back on the layer and you will have created a nice soft edge around your "cutout" that helps it to blend better and not be so soft. now you can link or merge or whatever you want.

you will need to play with level of blur depending on image size, but it doesn't take much.

i'll make a tutorial once my image gets out of voting, the sample image i have is too similar to my current entry.
