Mountain Lion is the latest version of the operating system, it was released on Wednesday. You have Lion, which is the earlier version. No special reason to buy mountain Lion at the moment. (let me do it first and I'll let you know how it goes, however, I will not be doing it in the very near future)
For a web browser, you could download google chrome or Mozilla Firefox. I personally use Chrome |

I am assuming how to set up TRIM will be an easy thing to search for, though it seems that maybe some of the SSD manufacturers have companion apps that can be installed to maintain drive health (not sure which would be the best solution yet). Hoping as I drag my feet doing this upgrade SSD prices drop a little further :) |
No problem, the trim support for my samsung was easily turned on with a couple lines of code in terminal (copy and paste from the web)
As for Mountain Lion I can safely say that it is much faster and easier to use. Just the difference in safari is worth the twenty bucks (ok not twenty but it's nice). The two finger swipe from the left is reminiscent of the down swipe on the iphone and quite nice. As for those that are having problems uploading it has to be a flash issue, try reinstalling flash again, maybe something got written over in ML installation. |

Upgraded my 2009 4Gb iMac from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion tonight. Took about 30 minutes (after the download completed) - Still indexing for spotlight to work fully, but that'll take about another 4 hours to complete.
Everything works well, seems faster as well. And Safari is great, as per the reports. I'll use it instead of Firefox... for the moment anyway. The dictation feature is quite good, fairly accurate. And the notifications shows potential. Launch pad is a bit of a waste on a non-touch device. But overall I'm happy with it. |
