living in new orleans...you have to assume that every driver around you is drunk. Because...quite honestly...most are. We have drive thru daiquiri stands at almost every corner. Ive got an alcoholic ex husband...

I think I could have handled him being a pothead. Criminal or not.

Look i have no understanding of the US law but how can it be criminal to show a picture of pot.

He never said it's criminal to show a picture of pot. He said it's criminal to smoke it.

it might as well be criminal to show the picture...if it gets dq'd

08/12/2004 12:09:22 AM · #32
Actually, I believe it is illegal. I've had friends that worked at developing labs, and they were required to turn any photo's of drugs or drug use over to the police.
08/12/2004 12:11:19 AM · #33
I don't think its actually illegal, otherwise how does "High Times" stay in business.
08/12/2004 12:15:05 AM · #34
Probably the same way the porn industy stays in business. Its illegal to pay for sex,.. unless its being video taped?

It's not a problem to post disqualified images to the forums... unless the disqualification was for a Terms of Service violation. Content that violates the Terms of Service when posted to a challenge also violates the Terms of Service when posted to the forums.

I am not one that likes controversy but what the heck ; Terms of service 4.2 also states alcohol, plenty of alcohol shots in challenges.

I remember the photo, that so obviously some primo wacky tobacky. You can't claim ignorance on that one.

No, I said it was criminal that we have a "system" which allows pharmaceutical companies owned by rich white guys to be able to push Prozac (usually with tax breaks and whatnot) as something to make people "feel better" but puts people in Federal Prison for smoking a plant which has been used for some thoussands of years to "feel better."

It is not criminal to display a picture of marijuana -- check your local newsstand for a current issue of High Times if you want to see some quality botanical photography.

It is however (potentially!) a violation of the DPC site TOS, which is a wholly private contract between the user and the site admins, and not generally subject to other laws or rules.

And it is not "criminal" to smake pot in a wide variety of places and circumstances, so let's not make our generalizations tooooo sweeping : )

That's not because it's illegal, it's because they're "employing" (coercing) private film lab workers into acting as government spies to try and catch people in situations where a warrant is less necessary, or in order to get one.

well since were on the topic should it be legal or illeagal. Personally if alcohol is legal so shoud pot. The gov't could grow it for a dollar and put a tax on it lowering the people's taxes. "God made marijuana, man made alcohol, which do u trust?

so, when are the "Addvertisements Revisited" results going to be recalculated? I guess It is full of alcohol promotion ...Beer, Vodka,
Brandy, Cigarettes?

I have nothing against enforcing rules ... but I feel that the enforcement should be uniform.

You are not the only one that has brought up this point. But it just keeps getting brushed aside as something the lawyers put into the TOS -- so it is OK to selectively enforce, or some such thing. **shrug**

We have consistently allowed more latitude with this rule for legal drugs (tobacco and alcohol) than we have illegal drugs. For the purposes of TOS discussion, legal/illegal is defined by the laws of the United States and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Like this very much. Despite a couple of minor points - there seems to be a little noise in the blue (not enough to be texture, too much to be smooth), and the 'bush' is sitting on the edge of the lit area, and might benefit from being in the brighter area of light), it's a great, simple composition. I wonder if the image couldn't be a touch more dramatic - perhaps a lower angle, perhaps a touch of back-lighting to give more dynamic shaping to the bush. Great idea though (reminds me of a poster campaign used by a train company in the UK), well executed. 7

I just now realized what this is a picture of. If it's what I'm thinking it is I'm surprised it hasn't been disquailified yet.

Great composition using a perfect set of colors. Excellent lighting. Although I'm sure your tree is miniature, it may help if there was something that was a recogniseable size to provide scale. The miniature rocks don't quite do it. It's still a great submission as is.

Borderline breaking the DPC Terms of Use here, I see this getting DQ'd. The picture is pretty well done though. Neat Image might of helped to make the background more even. Looks a little splotchy. Nice focus, and the simplicity of the image is nice.

Not sure if this actually counts as a miniature bush, but I really like this image. I like the simplicity and the light. I like how the tan part slopes and yet the "bush" is straight up. It makes it really appear to be the slope of a hill. Nice idea and well executed.

Beautifully composed with diagonal line, "bush" and of little rocks all positioned just perfectly. Great use of colours with the yellow, blue and green set off well against the dark brown rocks. Modern, original, striking. 9

I think the simple setup for this photo adds great appeal. Good focus on the miniature tree. For the most part, I like the lighting and composition. I'm not sure if this is a ribbon winner, but it certainly should be in the top 10 percent.

I didn't! Sure wish I could see the photo... If it IS what everybody thinks it is, then I'd like to see it. I wouldn't know 'pot plant' if I landed smack in the middle of it. Course, when I was younger, I was the ditz who used to walk into my roommate's bedroom and have no CLUE what she was doing!

I think this might warrant an amendment of the TOS to include the above - we have many international members for whom our laws regarding "illegal drugs" do not apply. The references to the laws and courts of Virginia currently in there don't refer to this definition or section (4.2)

Just a thought.

Well, naturally somebody told a joke
And a couple of the fellows began to smoke
I took a whiff as the cloud rolled by
And my nose went up like an infield fly
The Captain, this blond fellow from Yale,
He looked at me and said "Wassa matta wid YOU, baby?"

Well I may be crazy, but I think not
I swear to God that I smelled pot
But who'd have pot in Viet Nam?
He said "Whadda ya think you been sittin' on?"
These funny little plants ... thousands of 'em ... Good God amighty
Pastures of Plenty!
