Can't tell you much, since I didn't vote this challenge, but hey, you did better than I did. Still waiting on SC validation (I'm sure someone objected to the border), but at 5.16, It's probably not an issue for them.

Who cares about the score, are you happy with where it placed? I'm assuming not based on the thread, but I think that's the more important question.
I only ask because I gave out 1 eight, 2 sevens, and 4 sixes this challenges. Yours was one of the sixes, putting it my top 6% of the challege.

I like the image, and I didn't vote either, however I think your image was a bit abstract for this challenge. I beleive voters wanted to see something, anything, that they could identify with, and then see it upside down. Your image is more about lines and curves (with great tones) rather than an upside-image. I just think it is a matter of not fitting the voters idea of upside down. My two cents...... |

I gave you a 5. I normally would give that shot a 6, but there were lots of good compositions thanks to the upside-down theme, so it was only a 5 in this pack.

Personally i gave this one an 8. Yes it's just turned upside down but i liked the lines in it.
You placed well above me and i got myself into an awkward spot in the middle of a bunch of kids climbing, getting upside down and twisted in a jungle gym to get my shot, so yeah, don't worry about any detractors because the important things here are that you're happy with the shot and you didn't hurt yourself, your gear or others in the process of capturing the shot :)
Nothing in the criteria said you can't just rotate an image 180, it gave a pretty broad definition of upside down, so this was still definitely within the criteria of the challenge. |

It's more to understand the voting foibles on here, there is an expectation from voters and I try to avoid that which costs .
On seeing the challenge I said to the mrs it's going o be wine falling the wrong way from glasses, hair falling up fom head and crystal balls or lens reverseing images |

It doesn't look "upside down", Giles. It's an interesting picture but I have to work hard examining it to realize that it's, in fact, meeting the challenge. That's not a formula for success in DPC.

Gave it a 5. Did nothing for me, middle of the road photo etc .
Two ways to go here at DPC - either shoot for the masses or just shoot for yourself.
If you shoot for yourself it helps because you don't need to open a "why did this not do better" thread every time you get a low score on a photo
you thought was good but the masses here thought otherwise.

I didn't vote, but I can tell you I would have likely given it a 5. Not because I don't like it. The lines are cool, and it's pretty well composed and all. However, you can take any image and just flip it upside down to meet the theme of the challenge. In this contest, I would have scored higher for those images that used the theme cleverly in their image, as well as the image being a high quality. |

I didn't vote but I would have scored it either a 5 or 6.. depending on other entries and my so called Mood... The reason is, is because I find the image somewhat confusing. Personally, I struggle to find any connection to it other than the lines, which by the way, are cool, but not enough to carry the image beyond a 6 for me. As others mentioned, the Challenge was upside down, and it isn't overly apparent that this was taken upside down, so I'm sure the speed voters killed you.
Lastly, and perhaps this is just me, but this image also creates an optical illusion on my macbook. If you view the image on a monitor that is 1200x800, and scroll down so that you can just read where it says, "Photographer's Comments." It actually looks as though the image is tilted Counter-Clockwise ever so slightly... Its not... but it looks that way because of the way the lines line up, and you are only viewing 3/4 of the image at this point scrolled down on a monitor of this resolution. Maybe its just me, and I doubt it affected any votes, but it definitely feels like there's an illusion that its tilted.
Well, hope this helped... |

It's sort of in the grey area between abstract, and something that you would recognize if you studied it for a minute.
Maybe the complexity made the voters uncomfortable.
It's also not clear that it's upside down until you figure out what it actually is. Most voters don't seem to spend that much time or effort on digesting an image that takes any thought at all.

Learning this early has probably prevented the creation of about 985 new threads ... |

I gave it an eight, so, I can't answer your question. Good shot.
The guy who said "DNMC" please tell me you were joking. |
