As most everyone is aware, DPC has a strict policy against going to other sites and asking people to vote for your image here.
However, DPC does not seem to have a problem with people posting here requesting votes elsewhere.
Does this not seem a bit hypocritical? Should we not allow such requests elsewhere, or if not ban them here?
Disclaimer: While I have not asked for votes here, I have gone and voted as requested in response to threads posted here. Just a thought for discussion is all...

Good point, I know of no one who is not hypocritical, we are masters at pretending. |

I don't think it's hypocritical at all. After all, why should DOPC enforce it's site rules on other sites?
In fact many other sites encourage friend voting and tell you to get all your friends and family to vote. |

So in the end its a popular person challenge, not a photography one, i've always found that strange but Karen is correct its not up to DPC to enforce its rules. |

DPC doesn't allow it, we don't do it. Other sites allow/encourage it, we do it. No hypocrisy - in both cases, we follow the rules. My opinion anyway. |

Every request for votes (that I've seen) has been for those sites that want friends and family votes so the maximum number of people go to their site. If there was ever a request for a site that does not encourage the practice, then I would think the poster would be in the wrong.
I think we should support our fellow photographers on the site and I have no problem with people asking for votes for popularity contests. It's the only way the photographers stand a chance -- not if their photo is incredible, but how many people they know. :( |
