No. That's not it at all. I've shot MANY good pictures that don't even approach my average! So it must be sunspots. Or the upcoming eclipse thingy.

For instance, my beautiful landscape, which failed to break 6 here, is a raging hit on Facebook! 23 likes and lots of comments!

So it must be something other than just taking a good picture.

:-)

Congratulations nickb! You not only beat me this round with respect to averages, but you stomped me good in total score. And got yourself a ribbon to boot! Best of luck in the next round- I have a feeling you are going to be the champ two years in a row ;)

I've done far better than I expected this time - a very good run for me! But I will offer an early congratulations to my very capable opponent (who also happens to be a delightful person!) Good luck with the next round, Penny. May your imagination know no bounds!

A little bird (Clifton Clowers told me to say it was a bird) tells me Oliver ozmaster has big numbers and also relative to his average has me beat - congrats, Oliver.

It looks as if I am up against Oliver Ozmaster in the next round. That will be almost like a straight-up challenge, ie "who gets the higher score" since based on the numbers Paul Paulbtlw posted after the first round Oliver and I have starting averages within 0.02 of each other, with mine being 0.02 lower than his. It's an interesting challenge topic, one that's open to a lot of interpretation. Just hope I can give him a run for his money!!

Edit to correct Paul's user name

Well decided to enter Imagination just in case but it is highly unlikely I will be going forward

2) PennyClick

Ooh-ee ...

No sweat, Oliver, you did some seriously heavy scoring there and it's just as well you're carrying the flag because I'm 0.5 under average already in imagination. Imagine!

Congratulations to you and the three other semi-finalists.

Not so fast... My score this morning would not suggest that..

ETA: And my score at 1:30pm suggests it is even less likely that I am going through. Better start thinking about a your B&W abstract image, Oliver.

Wouldn't it be great if the two in the BYOA KO Challenge final were Nicky and Oliver, both of whom are 15 years old (setting aside the fact that they are really good friends)

Ladies and gentlemen, we have our finalists. Here are the results of the semis:

Group 1:
1) ozmaster 0.4463
2) PennyClick 0.2225
Winner: ozmaster

Group 2:
1) paulbtlw -0.2067
2) nickyb 0.7435
Winner: nickyb

I'm absolutely delighted to see that two of our younger members are competing (with their Abstract Black and White images) to be the 2012 BYOAC champion. How wonderful that they are best friends too!

Congratulations ozmaster and nickyb (who is also the defending champion). Gripping stuff!

Good luck to you both.

This has been an exciting and inspiring race - and what a finish it will be. Hope both the contenders managed to get in an entry with which they were pleased.

Strewth. Too bad you didn't nick your own prize, Paul - thanks for the challenge.

Go on you finalists...

Congrats Ozmaster & Nickyb! Could it have gone any other way? LOL! Have fun guys! Best of luck to both of you!
