'...Early adopters say that light can leak through that spot and confuse the camera's Automatic Exposure (AE) sensor... and Canon isn't disagreeing with them. In fact, the company has admitted the issue today. "In extremely dark environments, if the LCD panel illuminates, the displayed exposure value may change as a result of the AE sensorĂ¢€™s detection of light from the LCD panel," a Canon product advisory reads.'

It always bums me out when I hear about good cameras being plagued by dumb problems. Further convinces me that companies are trying to hard to churn out new products instead of developing worthwhile improvements and encouraging the 'gotta have the newest' mentality...

Interesting...and there's also been a light leak problem on the G1X

FWIW, take a breeze through this article. The MkIII is a very well put together machine. The light leak is a head scratcher, to be sure, but let's be rational: the conditions under which this will show up are *way* out of the box, and will not affect shooting even then. Who lights the top LCD while shooting?
I'm not saying it's not a problem, it is. But people make far more of it and problems like it than what they need to.

Seems like it would be easy to workaround in firmware, assuming the firmware could turn off the light when the shutter is pressed.

Sorry to risk derailing the topic, but is it not awesome that we can update embedded software these days? I just updated the firmware on my friggin blueray player the other day!

Definitely awesome...but I sometimes (At least in my experience) we expect too much from firmware updates. Like turning a good camera into a great camera (Sony F3 firmware update was 3000USD I believe in order to make it the monster camera it is.)
