moi? sadly 1 a month.

Scott, how are the results calculated? I tried to 'see' why the leaders are leading but couldn't see the obvious reason :(

I love statistics and if you take gyaban out of the equation and people who have only submitted to 1 challenge then I have the highest average on dpc! How does it go? there are lies, damn lies then statistics :)

Each user that has entered a challenge this year will be on the stats page. They will be ranked by "Average" and "Total Score". The average is the Total Score divided by how many times the user has entered a challenge. The Total Score is the Average multiplied by how many times the user has entered a challenge. Each one of these categories are ranked separately by percentile. The total percentile category is the sum of the Average Percentile and Total Percentile divided by two. The users Total Percentile will be used to rank them throughout the year.

If you take out the 44 people above me, I am numero uno. Unfortunately it would cost way too much to take them out. :P

Users are ranked by two categories, Average Score and Total Score, and points earned are percentile based. DPC tells you what percentile you placed in each challenge on your profile page under challenges. I calculate both categories the same way.

It would not be accurate to say the user with the highest average for the year deserves to be #1 based on his/her average alone. So participation becomes a factor in ranking users. However, participation with a low average does not deserve the #1 spot either.

Here is how users are ranked.
1. Average Score percentile compared to all users that have entered a challenge.
2. Total score, which is Average Score multiplied by Entries, percentile compared to all users that have entered a challenge.
3. #1+#2/2 gives each user there total percentile. Users are ranked accordingly.

Hope this helps.

I wish there were some advantage to those who enter more challenges.... or maybe there is and I'm missing something.

Users that enter more challenges do have an advantage. Here's an example:

1. First place ranks 20th with his average.
2. You rank 381st based on your average.
3. First place ranks 37th with his amount of entries.
4. You rank 6th with your amount of entries.
5. With participation (entries * average = score) as the second ranking factor, instead of being 381st your 99th out of 876. Not bad at all.

ETA: the user with the highest average only has one entry, they are ranked 224th.

Yeah... that's why I am ranked as highly as I am. I throw mud up against the wall more times than others.

None of it sticks... I just throw it more often.

I like this.

Unfortunately, while I can do math I'm not a statistician. I believe you, I just don't see it.

I can talk, unfortunately my grammar sucks. :) ... That's why I ask Bear_Music to proof my rules and write them where one can understand.

When trying to rank users I had to figure out a formula that would recognize one's average but at the same time take in account there participation. I asked myself was langdon the best photographer because he has the highest Score or was GeneralE the best because he has entered the most challenges.

I needed a formula that would reward each user based upon there average and participation. The average was quite simple, however, what do I do about participation. I pondered a little more and thought, what if user A and user B had entered 10 challenges, would that make them equal in participation if they scored differently? After crunching some numbers, I felt it was best to define participation as "Entries multiplied by Average". So if user A had an average of 5.0000 and user B had an average of 5.2500, then user B would be ranked higher because his total score was higher; 50 and 52.5 respectfully.

So I finally settled on the following formula.

Average Percentile + Score Percentile
------------------------------------- = Total Percentile (Users are ranked based on Total Percentile)
