I know much of the country has record heat, but in Eugene we woke to four inches of snow which is the most we've had in three years. Lane county probably owns one snow plow so the schools are closed and the roads are predictably full of NW drivers who don't know what to do in the snow (eight in the ditch in one mile of highway I drive). Would love to be out taking pictures, but I'm stuck at work! :( |

Ha, in upstate NY it was 75 yesterday, and currently 65 with a high of 78 expected.
Normal weather here in March is in the 40s (well, that's what they said on the radio yesterday, I don't track that sort of thing!)

Yeah, the weather has been crazy- it's going to be around 28 C (about 82F) with the humidex in Ottawa today! Strange-my pool is still covered by a thick layer of ice. |

Colorado mountains are experiencing June-like weather. Our snowpack is 71% of normal and dropping as the spring melt is on. March and April are normally our BIG snow months. So far, we are being skunked. The bears are coming out of hibernation. The migrating birds are coming back early. Basically, my area is a high elevation desert in a normal year. In a dry, warm year, we are at risk for multiple wildfires. Still time for the snow to fall, but for at least the next week we are going to be so warm, Denver and the front range megalopolis may flee to the relative cool relief of the mountains. |

Oh, hey... I just sent you a message basically saying the same, Jason. This is awesome! I just came back from a nearly 2 hour walk in the stuff. We're way over 4" now, I'm sure of it. Lots of downed trees in my neighborhood. When I first went out not many people were moving about, so it was pretty quiet except for what sounded like random gunfire. It's not gunfire though, it's trees coming down all over the area. Crazy stuff... I'll post a couple photos here in a few, but for now... hot cocoa! Brrr...
Here's a teaser; the elusive snowplow!

Looks awesome, but it was the first thing I thought of when I saw the snow in the morning. :) |

Happy Spring.....we have it here too, but it has quickly changed to a drizzle now. Streets are clear but the grass and trees still have snow on them. |

First, I stalked a dude...
Then I surveyed some damage...
Then I went to the grocery store to switch lenses. "What better time for a Lensbaby?", I thought!
I went to the playground...
Found a very cold flower...
Found a duck and a creepy crawler...
Finally, I found some more very cold flowers and went home, because I was very cold and wet...

Well, I was certainly a happy camper today; the song rings true!
I don't know if it was the right thing to do, but I scooped this guy up and put him under a tree. He was half way across the park's grass field and looked like he'd freeze before he made it much further (that and he was headed for the road). I figure he probably fell out of one of the trees when the limbs gave way. So, I hope he's happy now too. |

That's funny, because I always say the same thing about Portland. Grass is always snowier on the other side I suppose. I seem to remember you guys making national news a few years back as cars slid down a hill and pin-balled off other parked cars. It's probably safer that we're getting the snow, heh. |

And to think in three days I'll be going from this to 93 in Port au Prince. Talk about a shock to the system. |

I believe it takes about a week for the body to adjust to a significant change in ambient temperatures. That's what I read in a military study anyway. They have a bit of experience sending people into hot places. |
