Why oh why????

I didn't know about this and I am just heartbroken...probably the way my mother was heartbroken when Sean Connery stopped being Bond...

So who should be the next Bond? Opinions?

I'd like to see Bond done by someone like Ewan McGregor and have the film be more like the books, where Bond is not so simple, there are no gadgets etc...

I was just discussing this with my mother the other week. Never did come up with anything. Maybe Matt Damon in a few years.

Matt Damon has his own superspy character in Jason Bourne. No that he wouldn't do a fine job, but I would expect that he might play Bourne a few more times.

Very true.

Maybe the guy who played Arthur (in "King Arthur", duh)? Or Heath Ledger (is that his name? I mean the guy from "The Order") - he'd make a good Bond IMO. My daughters are Orlando Bloom fans (who isn't), but he doesn't strike me as "Bond".

Matt Damon bites. I hope he is not the next Bond.

I vote for either Eric Bana or Gerard Butler. It breaks my heart to say this, but I don't think Colin Firth would make a good James Bond.

Jude Law would make the best bond today IMHO.

I'd have to agree with Hugh Jackman.

While I might be the minority, I'd also have to say that Pierce Brosnan was one of the worst Bond's. Timothy Dalton being by far the best Bond.

MHO.

Actually Orlando Bloom is slated to be the next (young) James Bond.

every year for as long as i can remember, people ask me what i want for christmas and i tell them that i want the complete set of 007 movies. and every year i dont get them! oh well. at least i can talk about it here! :)

so, my personal request for the next james bond? um, hello! ewan mcgregor of course!! not only completely sexy but even has that great accent to boot. but ok, going down the list of other availables from laurie's link...

heath ledger--yeah...no. cute, but still too '10 things i hate about you.' needs a few years.

orlando bloom--also cute, but no cigar. i thought he completely, totally rocked as legolas greenleaf in LOTR, but have yet to see him in a role where he affected me as much.

jude law--sure, he could do it. he has that 'i dont know what' about him that works on the silver screen. no complaints here.

hugh grant--oh puhlease. i do like him, and think i have seen most of the movies he has been in, but no. he is just so static, he could almost make timothy dalton look like oh, i don't know, sean connery maybe. (or even worse than dalton, that george lazenby fella. who was that, anyway?)

gerard butler--sadly i don't know enough about him to make this call. i do know, however, that he was in timeline, which i almost rented until i noticed that rottentomatoes.com gave it like a -3% rating or something and so i just re-watched the blues brothers instead, for the umpteenth time.

ewan mcgregor--yes please.

ioan gruffudd--who? well, i do want to see king arthur (i love that stuff) and i absolutely will see the fantastic four (grew up on that comic), but still don't know enough about him in anything else to make this call either. sigh.

colin firth--wow. this is a tough one. while i absolutely love him, i can't really see him as bond. he's so...um, passive or something. but i still think he is great.

clive owen--hm. not unnattractive (come on now, this is a must for a J.B.), but don't know too much about his persona. vaguely remember him in gosford park, but then again, only vaguely remember gosford park, so i don't know if that is saying much. guess i will have to pay attention in king arthur. next...

Eric Bana--sigh. now i am a little crabby that i haven't seen troy. i mean i was before, but now i really want to see it, since i have at least two (or 4 if you count bloom and peter o' toole--i mean, who didn't love 'what's new pussycat'?) actors that are going to make this film great. (hm. in retrospect, i wonder why o'toole was never a bond? he definitely had "it".) so, i don't know enough about bana to say. i also havent seen the hulk, even though i say i am going to, eventually. wow, i am starting to suck at this list.

hugh jackman-- i dunno. i like him for sure, but as bond? perhaps i am guilty of stereotyping, but man, all i can see is wolverine. and van helsing and i never even saw that one, for crying out loud. sorry hugh.

matt damon--well, it's like spazzy said, he already has his role--bourne, jason bourne. lookie there, same initials and everything. shrug.

so, there you have it. my two cents of nothing. off to take some pictures. :)

Are you guys in denial about Orlando Bloom being the next James Bond?

well no, not really. i personally was just having fun imagining all the other actors in typical JB roles. but sadly, the way the last few movies have gone, i don't really care who is the next james bond. i mean if it's not going to be ewan. ;) but seriously, the newest movie is supposedly going to be about the young JB, so i suppose bloom works as well as any for that role, i have no doubt. and i'm sure it will be cool, especially since he will be younger and less experienced, so perhaps hollywood won't do an overkill on the FX as per the last few films.
