So I was at a BestBuy a couple days ago and was seeing these new tablets like the ASUS Transormer, Motorola XYBoard, etc... I purchased my XooM there about a year ago when it first came out and have used it heavily for online bits like paying bills, checking online accounts while traveling etc... But when I recently saw the newer ones I saw they came with keyboard docks, and even mouse capable??? So I went home and grabbed my Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and Magic Mouse and decided to give it a go with my XooM tablet... you know.. just to see if it worked (not likeley).
And yet here I sit no longer thumb-pecking the on-screen android keyboard, but using my full size Apple wireless keyboard to type and navigate my Android tablet... and the Magic mouse also works like a charm it has a little mouse pointer and all just like my real computer. I had no idea, I am sure others on this site figured it out much sooner but the tablet has now become close to a PC now that I can use the mouse and keyboard if I feel like it... This really brings pause to knowing if I need to bring my MBP along on travels or not any more...
I would say the only reason I still will for longer trips is the need for Aperture, and full PS software. But you know with PicSay pro, USB hosting working, and even a mobile PS app this is getting closer and closer... My XooM only has a dual core 1ghz Nvidia Tegra processor, and 32gb + a 32gb SDMini for a total 64gb storage... VS My MBP with quad core i7 and 8 gigs of ram not to mention the 512mb Nvidia GEForce card... so there is no comparison... yet. The ASUS Tablet seems to be getting pretty close though with quad core Tegra 3 processor, etc... Looks like it won't be long before I go back to having an actual desktop at home for the heavy stuff and will be able to get along with just the tablet on the road while toting a wireless keyboard and mouse for the times I can sit down and get a little more serious with it. very neat.
Does anyone on here have a tablet that they are using for actual PP for entries, that would be interresting to see/hear what you are using, and how it fairs V a traditional computer. I can plug my Nikon into my XooM and it imports no problem, I have not tried RAW though... and I have not gotten into the tablet side of PP yet so curious to hear if anyone has and what they think about it.

I use both Filterstorm Pro and Snapseed on the iPad for PP but of course, I have to email it to myself to upload it to DPC :-/ |

I, too, have a Xoom that I love! Now, I've never tried to offload photos to is from my camera....and my question becomes...in addition to editing software, what software does everyone us to import their photos or how do you do this to a tablet? Am I complicating things, LOL? Love the idea!
Also, for Xoom....do you need some type of adapter or do the camera cables work for transfer...as is?
Sorry for the hijack... |

Hey! For the XooM specifically you need the motorola USB adapter, it goes from the mini-usb to a female USB plug it is a few inches long but has to be the Motorola one for it to work right all the time. I got mine from Amazon for like $12? It does work great though, I just plug my Nikon D300s in and go to the "Gallery" and it says "Click to import" and wala images on Xoom. There is PicSayPro software and PS Mobile for editing, among others...
I don't know if you have already, but I threw a 32gb SD-micro card, with the help of file management I can move files around to be on SD-Micro cards or on the Xoom, the Gallery will pick them all up regardless of source.
Enjoy!

Paul, the iCab mobile browser for the iPad will allow you to upload images straight to DPC. Bought a number of browsers before I found that one.
