Here is a link to pictures of the Chinese Lantern Festival. Several are pictures of guys throwing molten metal against a cold stone wall. Looks cool and dangerous.

If you heat up a flint from a lighter and throw it at a wall, you get a similar effect...just a bit smaller (and safer) scale

Not sure if "cool" is the proper adjective, but those were very interesting. Also I got this abstract when my browser choked temporarily trying to load th first image ...

Safety does not seem to be a priority. How about image 17 of the shirtless guy everyone is supposed to throw firecrackers at for good luck?

I forwarded the link to the folks at The Crucible -- maybe they'll have a class on it soon ... BTW: I doubt that this constitutes a "budget" alternative to traditional fireworks.

Taking photos at an event Like this would be awesome. Anytime you have to come up with protective clothing to do something you just know it has to be fun.
