We got an email yesterday from paypal stating that our account has been reviewed and now whenever i sell something, the money i receive will be placed on hold for 21 DAYS in case there are any disputes.
So now when i sell an item, i have to send the item before i can get payment for it and i cant get the money for 21 days after i sell the item and there aren't any disputes.
for the record i have bought and sold over 220 things on ebay with 100% feedback, the only dispute i ever had was when i was the buyer and my item (from china) never showed up and that was over a year ago.
i just sold two lenses and the sales went off without a hitch. in fact i also bought three lenses, one got damaged in transit damaged, the seller refunded without any issue and paypal never had to get involved so why is my account being restricted like this?
paypal is going too far to protect buyers and alienating the sellers, this has been going on for sometime. If i cant get my money for nearly a month, im not using ebay. ebay's fees are astronomical and i only use them when i need to sell fast. screw them. if i cant get the money quick why bother?
has this happened to anyone else? |

If I got this message, I would respond by asking why. It's possible they made a mistake (though unlikely). If they cannot provide a satisfactory answer, tell them "it is with regret that I must inform you that your terms are no longer attractive, and that I will no longer sell items using your service."

Sorry, my mistake, 7% was eBay fee. I got the money via bank transfer - no fees at all. I avoid Paypal for selling if I can. |

I got this message after I sold my daughters clarinet. The buyer changed their mind and I gladly refunded them their money. I then sold it to a different buyer, who was excited to receive it. I then got the same message from pay pal. I assumed it was because I don't transact through ebay or pay pal very much. It is also furthur reason not too in my case. I hate paying money to a service I just don't need. I would rather do the face to face thing, even if it means it takes longer to sell an item. |

This sounds really strange I have used Paypal !00s of times on Ebay and many of other places with never any problem. I would do as suggested earlier and ask why ? It sounds wrong. |

Are you sure this was an email from Paypal. I've gotten similar emails and if you drill down and look at the coding (for lack of a better term) in the email, you will see it actually is a phishing email. If you click the link, you get taken to a fake Paypal site and enter your personal information and then you are screwed.

Yeah, it sounds like a phising email to me as well. Check the link carefully, don't click it. Email PayPal directly asking them if it's a genuine email. |

As someone who gets phishing schemes multiple times a day, I actually don't think this is one. Obviously be sure that if they're asking you to log into your account, you want to be darned sure it's PayPal's site and not some doofus in Nigeria.
Anyway, you might check this link to see if this is relevant to your case... |

No, it's legit. Here's the faq's https://cms.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/?cmd=_render-content&content_ID=security/paypal_holds_faq. The thing is, if you're ever involved in any disputes or file a claim it will happen to you. |

no its legit i checked it last night.
so according to the fyi my account got flagged for a few of these i guess.
You have limited history or selling activity with eBay and PayPal
You have low Detailed Seller Ratings, negative Feedback or other indication of below-standard performance on eBay
You have a high rate of customer refunds, disputes, claims or chargebacks
You're selling in a high risk category or industry such as, but not limited to, tickets, travel, gift certificates, computers, consumer electronics, or cell phones
Your business or selling activity is inconsistent. For example, you have a spike in selling activity, your average selling price changes, or you started selling in a new category without an established history in that category
The account information you have provided is incomplete or inaccurate, or we're uncertain with the information you've provided
Your withdrawal activity has changed
pretty dumb. considering i haven't had any issues.

So a guy with an A+ credit rating wants to buy a hot tub. The dealer says, hey, you don't typically buy hot tubs, so your credit is no good here.

It's happened to me a couple times as well. No disputes, just same reasons cited by Mike - high-risk category, inconsistent selling, etc. I think it's bullshit, but I am guessing they began doing it in response to scammers who build up a reputation on low-level sales and then go for one or two (or many) big 'scam' sales.
Clearly we are all on the wrong side of the law. ;-)
ps: Slippy, your request for a hot tub is denied. |

i can understand their dilemma, but if they evaluated who this affected they could see that my account is verified and i have been with them for almost 10 years with no problems.
in all reality sellers need to go through hoops to protect themselves from buyers. i sold an old car radio on ebay and the buyer got it and said it didnt work. paypal refunded their money. it worked when i sent it and when i got it had was broken in a way that couldn't have been done during shipping, the wires were cut like they tried to splice it into ther vehicle and shorted it out. the buyer stood his ground that it was DOA, got his money back and i was out my radio. i had no proof he broke it.
now i at least take pictures while packing it up and sending it, record all serials, i also get insurance on everything.
the sellers take too much risk on ebay, not mention getting raped in fees.

I had a basement full of shoes/boots/sneakers for a while, selling on eBay for a friend who owns some stores and wanted to get rid of last years styles. We stopped because it wasn't worth it with all the eBay fees, and that was with a "Pro Account" which gave "lower fees". I probably have a spreadsheet somewhere...
