I emptied my piggy bank today. I only put in pennies, nickels, and dimes. Quarters go to the the kids for milk, loonies and toonies go to the pizza delivery guy for tips.

My piggy bank is an old Toronto streetcar thingy (streetcars run on rails using electricity from overhead wires). People put their money or transfers in and it sits on the tray until the driver flips the lever and it goes down.

The closest guess will receive my hearty congratulations!

No idea, I don't even know what loonies and toonies are, but you've just made me realise that whenever I've heard an American say streetcar, streetcar is the american word for (in England) tram... so thanks for that =).

The counting of the piggy bank money is an annual family event in the Slippy household.

We bring the change to a counting machine and let it ride. Watch the video below for the answer to how much was in the piggy bank. Somehow, one quarter got in there, but the rest were pennies, nickels, and dimes. The wife and I had a few creative differences on the operation of the machine, as usual. Maybe I'm a bit of a micro-manager, but improper use of the machine has caused trouble in the past. I think the wife was just a bit grumpy.

I didn't see until watching the video that my daughter had noticed an odd looking 'penny', which turned out to be a halfpenny from England, which had somehow made its way into our change. She passed it through the machine after a bit of internal debate near the end of the video, and it was rejected and identified by the grumpy wife.

The video is 'short-changed' at the end, YouTubes fault, not mine. I had a 15 second span on the final tally, but it bacame a two second span, so you have to hit pause to see it.

That's quite impressive, they've been out of circulation here for 28 years =).
