It's just a 3-dimensional jigsaw puzzle. All the pieces are of manageable size. I don't know if it's still done, but there used to be quite a lot of castle-buying-and-moving being done by the absurdly wealthy.

Captain Cook's Cottage was moved from its original place in England to Melbourne.
In 1970, we stayed at a 15th century castle gatehouse in France, but the castle itself had been moved to Somewhere, USA. |

We have been going to Lake Havasu each year for the past 4 years for the Jetski World Finals held in Oct as my sons compete. So forgive me for knowing this but here goes; London Bridge was indeed falling down (hence the nursery rhyme) so the UK sold it off in 1968 to the highest bidder - the founder of Lake Havasu City, Robert Mcculloch - for the sum of just over $2.4m. It was dismantled and each stone was numbered, for 'easy' reconstruction. Before the bridge was built there was no channel or water. that was established after construction of the bridge by dredging a mile long channel and rediverting the water from the lake through the channel and back into the lake.
I agree LydiaToo Tower Bridge falling down... just doesnt cut it.. |
