Hello.
Can anyone tell me what barndoors do exactly? Other than to keep the animals in or out, that is.

I may be way off, but I think they are used to focus light from a light source...barn doors closed in more, light beam is narrower and more focused...barn doors open wide, light pattern is more diffuse...I know that's how we used 'em in college when I was in video...well that and to have some place to tape our gels (LOL...duct tape memories...out in the field, last-minute shoot, never have the right equipment with you ;o). There may be more eloquent, technical answers from the knowers of all out there. :o)

Barn doors fit on the end of your strobe or fixed modeling light and allow you to control how bright they are as well as how spread out the beam is; they are also useful for helping to block the actual bulb and reducing flare effects. |
