I don't know how relevent lens quality is when you size an image to 600 pixels wide and save as a compressed JPG.... but that's a nice picture.

The Canon Kit lens is OK.... I would never want to use it on a 10D equivelent or above though....

It works great on the 'light' 300D... 10D is much heavier and suits the heavier higher quality lenses... |

WOW, I didnt' realize what I had started here. Anyway, I really don't have any complaints about the kit lens. As a matter of fact, the picture I chose to submit to the Miniature challenge was taken with the kit lens. I also tooke some with my new 50mm 1.8 Canon lens, and I have to say, I'm not impressed so far.

The kit lens might not be L glass, but it's not total crap either. Perhaps I'll change my mind when I get my first L lens, but I plan to use this lens as long as it "lives" because I like the wide angle it provides and I can't afford or justify the purchase of a $600 wide angle to medium telephoto lens right now. Maybe if I upgraded the camera to one that didn't take that lens, I would buy one. For now, I'm sticking to my kit lens.

Wow! Maybe you got a bad copy. I have the standard lens package that most 300D users have (kit, 50 1.8, 28-135 IS) and I have to say that the 50 1.8 is outstanding. I still like the kit lens very much, but the quality is not even close to the 50 1.8.

Maybe I just to experiment more with it. I need to get out and use it, but I'm working nights which really sucks cause I sleep all day and don't have the opportunity to go anywhere. I think my friend and I are going to a market in a neighboring town sometime this weekend so I might bring it with me. This market is very colorful and interesting. We'll see.

I have to agree with K Rob. The 50mm f1.8 is great value and takes very sharp pictures (compared with the kit)

The 28-135 USM IS is a great lens also... sharper than the kit, not quite as sharp as the 50mm...

Of course, they didn't make that change to the 1D mark II but perhaps they are saving the -S designation and lens mounts for their non-professional grade camera bodies but that's academic. |

The reason why the 1D mk2 does not have an EF-S capable mount is that the CMOS of the mk2 is considerably larger compared to the 300D/10D one. The image circle of EF-S is too small for that 1.3x crop sensor. Not that I can imagine anyone using it on such a camera anyway.
If future camera's will be EF-S compatible depends on the CMOS used. If the new 10D is EF-S compatible it would mean that it still has the 1.6x sensor and that would be a big disappointment in my opinion.

I also don't believe that a 10D-like camera will be shipped with a kit lens. So that 20D might well be a 300D succesor. Like the current 10D/300D sensor, with Digic 2 and full 10D controls and menus in a plastic body for the same price as the 300D at introduction (the D70 competitor). The 300D could stay but with a lower price.

I'm sorry, I just had to share. This has to be one of my favorites so far with the 50mm 1.8. I don't have the exif with me but this was handheld at 1/30sec, I believe.

		I found this link!
 Link
 And it says:

An upgraded 10D replacement will be announced in September - probability 90%
and assuming this is correct then:

 Model number D20 - probability 60%
 It will have a 1.6x sensor - probability 90%
 It will be 6MP - Probability 80%
...or it will be 8MP - Probability 20%
It will have E-TTL II - probability 100%
Price will be at or around the $1500 level - probability 80%
It will hit the streets by November - probability 80%
It will have an EF-S compatible lens mount - probability 100%
 There will be new EF-S lens(es) - probability 75%
It will be available as "body only" and as a "kit" with a new EFS lens - probability 70% |

How disappointingly boring that would be... from what you posted, it would seem to be E-TTL II and a shorter focal distance with a moved mirror.

I have seen several interviews with Canon Japan and Canon Europe people that the EF-S that came with the 300D was a special one within the EF range and that the chance is very small that more EF-S lenses will be developed.
Also because the EF-S design only works well for wideangle lenses and past 50mm you can just as well use EF lenses of which there are plenty.
