This afternoon I sent in the D90 for a good going-over as I was getting the dreaded ERROR message, meaning mechanical problems. Bad enough that it happened once and froze up, giving me a black viewfinder and that blinking ERROR on the top LCD and crapped out for 3-5 minutes (seems much longer).
But then it happened again some 3 weeks later though to not as bad an extent. So I am actually glad that things are slow right now in terms of photo work, as dude at Vistek said it would be away 3-4 weeks, though may come back sooner...probably just covering his ass.
But still, argh! Feel like I've sent a child off to boarding school. So it had better come back working perfectly and all spiffed up!
And yes in the meantime will be shooting with the *other* brand. But hey, at least I gave Canon a fair shake before buying the D90. |

That sucks, hope everything comes back in tip top shape. Don't sell your soul to the evil that is Canon. I never had one, but the display models at Best Buy just felt evil in my hand. Hey, maybe that's a good thing now that I think about it.

But I did shoot Canon before I decided to go Nikon!!!! I had a Canon Powershot A700 before I got the D40. Then after a couple years, when I decided to upgrade, at some urging I shot a 20D for a few weeks. But found the weight of Canon gear and layout to be not as ergonomic and lighter in weight than the Nikon. And I'm not a weenie little girl, I'm strong, but still found the Canon to be somewhat weighty.
So I went for the D90 and within a week or so of buying it, shot a blue-winning image with it :-)
So even though I am *bilingual* in terms that I can shoot Canon as well as Nikon, well, my heart belongs to Nikon.

I think I know what you mean to say, but these two sentences as written contradict each other. |

You'll be fine... Take a deep breath.
She'll be fine...
Kids usually go off for just a bit and then come back with a spouse and kids.
Make room.

Susan needs a little Nikon support here.
Most of the older 70's and up retro glass works just fine with the current Nikons with no modification or adapters, so : P "Neener Neener" : D

@ RayEthier...never fear, I haven't forgotten about the 20D, but in the meantime do have a Canon to shoot with...
@ GeneralE...I'm fairly strong for an old broad of near 45 now, but I don't have exceptionally strong wrists or great big paws like most Canon shooters I know. I find I walk a little lopsided when I'm packing around the 20D and gear...
...which is why I've dusted off my previous Canon!! Muwahahahaaaa...;-) |

| Oh man, that sucks. Both because your baby is gone, and because MY D90 baby also needs to go get a check-up. Something is definitely not right with her. |

Uh oh...are you getting that black viewfinder and flashing Error message too? :-/ If so, I'd send her in. I already miss mine and she's barely been gone 24 hours :-(
And as for all you smug Canon people...hey I already have two images on my top row that I shot with RayEthier's 20D... so there! Nyaaaahhh!! ;-
ETA: Oops now it's only one image on my top row...see if you can tell which one it is without peeking at the info box!

Picked it right off. It was not anything to do with camera quality though. My logic was if you were using Ray's camera you might have, oh, oops..... I'd better not spell it out if ppl are guessing.

Well it's been 2 long painful weeks without the D90...I dug up the ol' Powershot but disappointed by its lack of versatility.
So, thanks to the coaxing of two C-T Rs...aka RayEthier and Magnumphotography...I am going to the *dark side* til my baby comes home. In fact this is the 2nd or 3rd fall/winter in a row that I've picked up a Canon for a little while. Ray has kindly loaned me his 40D, a couple of lenses, and a teleconverter; Ryan helps with the troubleshooting when I get lost in the menus ;-) Honestly there is very little difference. The layout on the back is different but all the icons are the same.
So Canon shooters, don't get your hopes up, my baby will be back soon!!!

The difference is the gear. Really it is!!!
Canon mounts opposite to the way Nikon mounts; Canon is laid out quite differently; and yes the Canon gear I am now packing (one body and 2 lenses) weighs almost as much as my usual gear of one body and 4 lenses.
But there is no difference at all in terms of the way I shoot or what I shoot. Take my top row challenge, and see if you can pick out the image in my top row that was shot with Ray's 20D. Bet you can't spot it!! :-) |

YAAAAAAYYYYYY!!!!!!!
Just got a call from Vistek, my D90 is back from being repaired (under warranty). Apparently some electrical circuit thingy was fixed and sounds like a few buttons with the icons worn off were replaced too. Will go get it tomorrow as it is absolute hell getting into and out of the city at this time.
So happy!! Will be so good to get my baby back!!!! YAAAAAYYYYY!!! |
