Probably 90% (or more) of the challenge topics are based on member suggestions made in the forum set up for that purpose. SC members sometimes adjust the challenge description, but only Langdon schedules the challenge.

I see. I've always wondered that. Thanks.

Your not the only one.. Thanks for clearing that up.

Every time I shoot a macro people say "its just a close up, not a macro."

SO to get this straight, the "street" in here is not an "Urban" or "pavement" reference? Just a whatever you find out and about macro? and the term "street" is not a derogatory term meaning "hood" or "ghetto" or "lesser than formalized macro" such as the terms "street drugs" or "street basketball" or "street walker"?

Suggestion Thread... for clarification, if that is possible.

My opinion of the challenge description is a macro with a street vibe. So you had better get in close.

I forgot to mention that the other 10% of the time, L scans my hard drive for the "best" photo I've taken each week, and makes that the following week's topic ... ;-)

For example, I took this on the 12th ...

even the comments in the suggestion thread mention "Maybe a bit closer up"... so, everyone down on your knees with your face on the pavement??

also, is this more "found" or you think there will be a lot of "assisted" images?

good thing in the northeast is we have all the leaves falling now... ;-)

I usually go out taking photos nude anyway. That way no one notices the camera

wow... sounds like some very narrow definitions here...

I just figured it was like street photography -- go wander and see what you find. Not that it has to have a street in the macro.

So, if I don't have a macro lens, can I still compete in this challenge with a very close up shot?

If you get about as close as you can with your normal lens and then crop it closer you should be fine. An alternative would be to use your Pentax - some point and shoot often have a setting that take decent macros.

I don't think anyone answered this, and I'd like to know too. (I think maybe not close enough?)

Thanks Mark. Will give both cameras a go. Marion from what I now understand, I don't think those shots are close enough. However, with macro being what it is, I don't know how anyone will be able to determine if the shot was taken in the street or not...unless it's a macro of the pavement itself! Lol
