| I think the Glossary at DPReview is a great reference, especially since a lot of concepts are illustrated with photos and/or diagrams (such as Depth of Field). Perhaps the "DPC Dictionary" can provide links to other sites with more detailed definitions. |

It is a nickname I was given in college. While I was busy with something else, half-listening to the conversation of my friends, I heard a question and answered it (student training, I guess). Apparently it was a question that had been giving them a lot of grief for a long time -- they were quite excited to be rid of it. I had the answer, so I became Britannica to them from them on.
I use it since it was the first nickname given to me that is usable in polite company.
