Okay wow! I just previewed this and it is long but I would really be ungrateful if I didn't post this so here goes:
One year ago today I tried submitting my first entry for a challenge, I had been trying to learn a few things about photography from some free on line tutorials and this site was mentioned in one of them. I was curious to see how my photos would score. I also thought it would be a good learning experience and since I wasn't taking any photography classes I decided $25 was a small price to pay. Little did I know that my $25 would yield such great results. I've definitely got my $25 worth out of this site and then some.
I just wanted to take a minute and thank everyone on this site. It is so nice to know that if I have a question about anything it is usually answered within an hour or less of posting in the forums. I appreciate that everyone is so eager to help each other out and that is what I really love about this site.
I also want to thank a few really great photographers on this site who have been really great mentors and friends. The first member I got to know was yo_spiff probably not uncommon since he is usually the first to welcome new members. He gave me great honest feedback on some of my very first entries and took the time to help me learn a little bit more about photo shop which incidentally he doesn't even use. His explanation on how to use layers was a spring board for me on how to fully utilize photoshop.
Then I met Bear_Music again not uncommon since I think he has mentored about half of the people here on DPC. His honest feedback is what I was looking for. You have to have a bit of a thick skin sometimes, but I never would have learned half as much from anyone else. Robert has taught me to look at my photos with a critical eye and also passed along some great editing techniques as well.
I wanted to learn a bit more about making my landscapes better so Robert offered to introduce me to hahn23. Richard gave me some great tips on how to improve my landscapes, teaching me the importance of using tripods, where to put the horizon line and to always make sure my horizons are strait. :) He also introduced me to SEP which I have found invaluable editing tool.
Then there was the infamous "help which one feedback club" and I got to know vawendy I had always been a big admirer of hers and found giving and receiving feedback from her was always a lot of fun. Wendy has taught me about perseverance and patience, and wow! does she is overflowing with both of those. She also introduced me to some other really fun people on this site, and organized the feedback groups that she has so kindly let me be a part of including the latest group of WPL members. I don't kid myself in knowing that without her I would have never been a part of that group.
Hopefully I don't miss anyone here but here are some other members I have gotten to know and enjoy just PM'ing them occasionally or exchanging feedback. I really appreciate it!
tanguera
jagar
pennyclick
markwiley
niallotuama
neat
pearlseyes
njsabs
sandyp
hihosilver
and of course my current WPL team:
karenNfld
LydiaToo
gyaban
timfythetoo
And to many others who have left helpful comments on my images, pm'ed me with links to sites and given me helpful information on forum threads I have created.
Anyway I would be very ungrateful if I didn't say thanks to everyone. I very happy to be paying my next $25 tuition payment and look forward to my next year of learning. Thanks DPC you rock! |

Jenn -- in terms of assistance and advice, things have been pretty one-sided between us. I want to thank you for all the patient and generous advice I have gotten from you. I joined January 1st and, later that month, you were the very first person to respond to first forum request for help. Since then, I pestered you for advice you more times than I should. Thanks a lot and happy DPC birthday! |

In this world where complaints are so easy to make, it's refreshing (but not surprising) to hear you say compliments and thanks to people, Jenn!
Happy DPC Birthday! May you have many more!
I've enjoyed your work for a while... and really enjoying being teammates with you! |

Happy DPC birthday, Jenn!!
Thanks for all the wonderfully kind things you said!
And it really stinks that you're getting better than all of us!
I hope you don't notice that we're giving you bad advice now.
We're so glad you're here!! :D |

LOL! Thanks everyone, I really hope that I can pay it forward someday. Heaven only knows that if I had to pay you all back now I would be in debt up to my eyeballs. |
