OK, they just got me a wacom tablet at work (against my wishes, actually).
Does anybody have any usability preferences they can suggest -- any ways of setting the thing up that works best for them?
Looking for any ideas that will make me hate the thing less.

I work best with mine when I set it to act like the whole screen, rather than be relative to cursor position... it's as close as I can get to natural feeling with it. Just takes a little getting used to.

The "direct addressing" instead of scrolling the cursor is hardest to get used to. Unless you're really accurate, set the latitude for double-clicking fairly liberaly -- I have a hard time tapping twice in the same place. |

did they get you the one that also has a mouse as well as a stylus?
if so, use the mouse for everything except drawing and selecting.
or just keep using your old mouse for normal stuff. . and the tablet for graphics things. . |

Yup, I use a logitech optical mouse ontop of my watcom tablet, then use the pen for drawing/ painting work - also I use the button on the pen, rather than double tapping it

If you don't already have photoshop elements check out wacom's home site. You can get it through them for just $69.
I really love my pen when I'm working on a graphic at pixel level detail. And there is no bottom wheel on the mouse so you don't have a chamber that needs cleaning out all the time.

It's also the most ergonomic of all the input devices so far...I had to get one when I was masking a book full of photos developed elbow and shoulder problems from the mouse. |

Thanks for the suggestions all -- I still don't like the thing, but I'm forcing myself to use it. :-)
