Here's my simple effort. May look ok in gold or even silver ?
original exactly to spec.

Looks ok with a black background too.

I'll be happy to send two 20x30 prints to anyone who sends me the 10D to take them with ... : )

Update:

You can use photographs on the card instead of creating a JMS logo. Choose from any of the photos on my pbase gallery:

Nope sorry, not having another go...
Talk about indecisive, Setz!
:oP

PS Creation would be a good one to use... I think.

Hopefully you haven't made up your mind yet... I have my eye on those lillies! :) Here are my entries:

My personal favourite is the last one. You know.... if I win you won't have to ship them, I can swing by and pick them up (hint hint) LOL
I enjoyed making them regardless if I win, Good Luck To All.

Dana
I think the ones featuring the old camera and John's Creation image are superb!

The last one with John's Picture is best if you simply want people to be able to remember you. It ties you to the subject clearly and distinctly. When people look through their cards and see it, it will remind and reinforce you to them. I also like John's Creation one, it shows creativity, posing, and overall photography skills. So if you are emphasizing that part of your photography use it.

But I must say for my money, I'd do the last one with your picture, it will do more to promote your business.

My only concern with the one with John's picture is that it implies he is a portrait photographer, and I believe that is not where his interest lies. That does not take away from the fact that it is a phenomenal design.

I love the one with the creation photo, if John is willing to go to the expense of an additional color.

OK John, I had to bite - if only because this is yet another competition!

Personally, I think a business card should reflect your character (in as much as that is possible) and state information clearly and with style. To this end, whilst you don't want to state the obvious, you need to communicate the nature of your business and your design preferences in one hit.

In my view typography should be clean and spacious leaving the image to do the talking. In the designs below I believe that the type would work without the JMS marque, and the cards would also work without an image and/or the marque.

I also prefer black and white or perhaps duotone for your style as colour can add too much of a statement in one direction. A second colour, albeit subtle, can add a lot of impact. If you really want to make the cards feel sexy then go for matt lamination. I simply never tire of it!

The lenticular designs of the second two are my own images.

Since I flip-flopped half way through and started accepting designs with photos on them, I'm gonna have two winners instead of just one.

I do like these with the photos on them quite a bit :)

Imagineer's water design is superb and his JMS logo is also excellent. Very professional.

I still like the idea of using an image titled Creation to reflect John's creativity (although I appreciate the title is a biblical reference) and would be interested in seeing Imagineer's typographical and layout skills applied to a card using that image.

Is the water image one of John's? I don't recognise it.

I tend to disagree that the card should have any of John's self portraits on it - it strikes me as a) failing to showcasw his creativity as well as some of his other work b) weird - I just don't think it would come across as professional to have one's own image on one's business card and c) giving the impression that John is limited to or specialises in portrait work.

I thank everyone for taking the time to do these designs for me :)

I have three winners:

1st place: Imagineer

These designs are excellent. Great work :)

2nd place: Alan Lapp

I really like THIS design quite a bit :)

3rd place: aerogurl

Your design with the camera on the card is almost identical to one of my own that I'm really happy with...

Imagineer gets first choice at two of the prints... then Alan Lapp gets second choice... the aerogurl gets third... After imagineer contacts me with two choices, I will contact the rest of you to let you choose and then I'll get them in the mail this week.

Thanks again :)

Is it me, or are Imagineer's winning designs nowhere to be seen? Are they top-secret now or something? =]

Yes, well-done. I tried one, but this is much better. Logo design is usually pretty expensive ... this should end up a good deal for both of you.

CONGRATULATIONS!

WOO HOO!

John you have some excellent creative ideas here... how wonderful. I think using more than one design and giving different cards to different audiences would work well so will you be using 2 or 3?

LOL... they were being filtered out by my anti-ad proxy... I had to bypass it to see them. Thanks.

Hey! I actually won something on DPC!!!

Glad you liked them John - and I'm really looking forward to receiving the A0 size, light-fast, canvas, block-mounted prints (complete with stainless steel spot-lighting rig).

Do you have a preference on any one of the designs by the way?

Edit: almost forgot to thank Kavey and the General for the kind comments.
: )

Dang, my DPC fortunes are turning! A second in the un-official JMS card challenge, and a personal best 22nd in Chocolate! Life's good! John, I'll get with D'Wife [tm] and see what she fancies from your outstanding collection and contact you via PM. I'm glad you enjoy the design. If you have the budget for 2-ink printing, my vote is for the marble image.
