I was just reading the 10D manual... I don't know if I missed it in the 300D manual or what, but on page 78 it suggests using the Eyepiece Cover when using a timer or remote (when your eye is not covering the viewfinder) to prevent stray light from entering the exposure (so that's what's that's for!). Has anyone had problems with this before?

it can be a problem for long exposures at night
You can see the effect for example if you are looking at a camera on a tripod, when someone moves in front/ away from the eyepiece - you can see the light reflecting through, off the mirror
If you shine a bright light in through the eye piece, when you are taking a shot, it can scatter/reflect on to the sensor - e.g., sunlight or streetlights.
I normally just shade the eyepiece with my hand if I'm concerned about this, as I don't use the strap with the large 'STEAL ME' emblem.
