Challenge - Moving but still.

Description - Take a motion blur photo where the camera and surrounding area remains still and the focus is on a still subject. No panning allowed. Classic example is a person standing still in a busy city street with everyone moving around them.

Here is an example I took about a week ago. This image was hand held at 1/16th and using a 50-500mm lens. So there is no excuse if you don't have a tripod. I was still recovering from pneumonia and was balancing on heels on uneven ground. But I really like the resulting affect.

Agreed, great challenge... Now, how shall we word the title and description - this will need to be CAREFULLY done. :)

Just a feeling that there would be A LOT of car light trails... But it sounds like a good one..

+1 from me! Good suggestion!

There may be lots of car light trails...but as with any challenge if there is a lot of the same subject it would have to be a damn good image to come out on top. The more creative and stand alone images that are done well will generally receive a better score as they are like a breath of fresh air amongst the 'of the same subject images'.

Yes i would like to try that.

It would be a good challenge.

Possible wording; "Take a photo where the camera and both the subject and its physical surround remain stationary, but movement within the scene renders motion blur that helps isolate the subject for the viewer."

Added obvious visible movement to your description to eliminate the ones who try to claim a passing fly or leaves are the moving part of the image.

Well, I thought the part about "helps isolate the subject" took care of that, it gives the reason why we're doing this, but...

Title: Partial Motion Blur

Description: "Your camera should be still and part of your picture should be still. The rest should be in motion."

Any description beyond that, including the hideous term "subject," is overdoing it.

I like it...Should be a Basic edit challenge IMO.

juxtaposition of blurred vs not in a non-blurred background.

Without moving your camera in any way capture an image that includes blur and non-blur.

But we're getting away from the OP of "motion". Blur and non-blur can be ANYTHING with an OOF background.

OK.
Without moving your camera in any way, capture an image that includes motion-blur and sharp focus.

Like Kenny says, you guys are drifting a LONG ways from what Judi intended. While I tend to share Don's dislike of the concept "subject", as an artist, it's nevertheless sometimes a useful word, and it's integral to this concept.

Include motion blur in an otherwise sharp photo without panning. Try to make the blur add to the story within the image.

This thread is blurring the subject. However, I like Judi's suggestion.

or

...capture an image with two subjects, one motion-blurred and one in sharp focus.
