Be really harsh here if you feel you need to. I really want to become a better photographer and I really need input on these pictures right here. THANKS ahead of time!

my husband wanted his portrait done..so here he is.
horses out in the middle of "nowhere"
a Creek on a backroad on the military base (we weren't supposed to be there.lol)

Portrait is cropped too tight for my tastes. I like the horses shot, very nice. The creek, I don't know it either looks flat(?) or not quite properly exposed.

Thank you for replying. The potrtait was cuz my husband would not move back for me..not cropped at all believe it or not..lol. Just how he likes his picture. The horses I like.
The creek..I know the sun was in the wrong place but it was so beautiful. I'm thinking of going back to it early in the morning when the sun is rising not setting to get a GREAT picture of it.

I would have to agree with jadin...the portrait needs a bit more at the bottom, especially...so he's not just a floating head. The creek is pretty, but the lighting is a bit harsh in areas. The horses are beautiful...that one is, in my opinion, one of the best pictures you've posted ever. Very nice. :o)

Thank you Jadin...I will take that into effect.
Here is an older picture (taken back in March) of my husband. Can barely see him and I modified the church door. Made it more interesting. He looks like a pea compared to the Cathedral door. Does this picture suck? Trying to get ideas for portraits of me and my family.

If I were you I'd edit out what you just wrote and use it for the 'everyday objects' challenge...

Crystal...His arms are a different color than his head, and the warping of the door, although pretty cool, is just a bit much...he's already overpowered by the size of the door, and the effect you applied makes him look that much smaller. Of course, I'm not an expert. I think it might be better with a tighter crop, still keeping him in the lower right corner. :o)

I think his arms are like that cuz of the vertical color I did. Not sure though. Here's another picture I took at a concert in my hometown of country singer Chely Wright. I was at the stage...obviously. Am I getting better????

There are more pictures of Chely at //photos.yahoo.com/wilkinsonartwork in the Chely folder
I also have some of Josh Turner I haven't put on yet.

Compared to? When were you bad? Umm, you're definately improving, I don't know what level you were at before to say "yes you're getting better" but I like the ones you posted in this thread. I strongly recommend you go back to that creek for a reshoot. Your framing and composition of that is gorgeous. Just that dastardly sun. ;)

Thanks..I will do that. This is a picture taken just down the road from the creek. I used a lot of filter on it in Neat Image cuz I really like this "dreamy" look it gives it. (sorry all, i've been up all night messing with pictures and constantly posting them i think cuz I'm bored now)..I'll stop for today after this one.

I think your shot of the horses is very good. just a bit underexposed for my taste. but that's my personal opinion. But the composition is very good. The portrait of the singuer from the composition point of view is very nice. Nice crop and composition. But what I don't like is the artificial look of the skin tones. Probably excess of Photoshop work. Probably you have done it to diskise some skin imperfections or something like it, but it gives a very plastic like tone of skin. I would like to see the photo withuoght beeing processed. Please tell me if I'm correct. and post the uneditted photo if you like.

That's really cool. Very surreal.

Isn't that what this site is here for? :D

I just assumed the singer was wearing gobs of makeup for the concert..

With the Chely photo..all I did with her is run it through Neat Image. I did no other editing to it. I have no clue really how to "fix" someone's imperfections on PS if I tried. I'm still learning. I ought to try and get a couple hours sleep before it's time to load up the car and get a move on.
Thanks for the replies..and keep replying I'll be back in a couple days.

And justo one thing to all of the photographers: it was much aprecciated if you take the trouble to describe in your portfolio the changes that you did to the photos, so when we visualize it we can undersand the changes (at least for us that aren't so good in Photoshop).

That's the edited message ;) What was removed was about an idea not yet tried.
