This was my entry way back in Something New II, which did just fine.

With all the recent discussion about duo/tri/quad tones, I thought I'd give it a try and see what I could come up with. I don't know if I'm even doing it correctly...I went to Image>>Mode>>Greyscale, then Duotones, then picked 4 colors for a quadtone that I thought would work well together. Then I did some tweaking in curves. Did it enhance the image in any way? Did I do it incorrectly? How do you know what four colors to use, or do you just pick what you like? Guess I'm looking for a secret recipe or something! LOL

Laurie, you appear to have lost some shadow detail in the transition.
The effect you appear to be striving for could be reached by maybe just using black and any other lightish colour not four, too complex, its all down to what you want so just keep messin about and it will hit you in the face, mind you it may also not hit anyone else :)
Thats the trouble with duotones.

...you are correct, peecee...I did lose a lot of shadow detail. I redid it again, this time with a duotone of black and a sepia-like color, with some dodging and burning...any better?

I like this a lot more, you kept the detail there,a great sky too, an improvement on the first shot for sure.
Nice one Laurie.

Yup .. this last one is the best out of the 3. It really is amazing how Photoshop can take a already stunning picture and make it even more stunning. Good job.

Cheers,
Mike

Thanks, guys...I'm still learning every time I open that program. It's so much fun to just fiddle around with it and see what you get! :o)

I think you have done a bit too much with the last one. Have a good look and decide if you can get a decent print from it. In the last one you posted the halo is more prominent around the top of the structures. You can get away with that with a small image for the web or by trying to pretend you didn't notice :) but when it comes to getting a print done, you'd be disappointed.

Oh, I'm not interested in having a print made...I'm just trying to figure out the whole duotone thing...I'm going to work on it with moodville's excellent tutorial and see what I come up with. Thanks!!! :o)

Hi Laurie,

Here what I do with Tritone:
Open-Image-Adjustments-Curves, Eyedropper the 3 levels, then Resize. Then I go Image-Mode-B&W, Image-Mode-Tritone, usually in the range of Toyo 0705 & Toyo 0550 for the second 2 colors.
Then back to Image-Mode-RGB.

Here's where the diffference comes in:
I go to Image-Adjustments-Selective colors and adjust Black, Neutral & White levels until I get what I am trying to express.

Engineering, Cars & Architectural shots work real well with this:
Added a few more

Gives a different look & feel.

Fabulous stuff Brad and something I would like to learn but wouldn`t know where to start. I don`t think I have the facility to do this stuff on PSP8 but maybe somebody can correct me on that?

Laurie...that final image you produced is quite superb.
