Hey all,
Just curious if anyone has shot this lens with one of the NIKON TC's and with what results? I LOVE this lens... LOVE... but sometimes with I could get a little more reach out of it. So if anyone has experience with this exact lens, and a NIKON TC... let's hear it!
Thanks,
Nick |

You can see sharpness tests here.
They start out using the 1.4, but also covers the 1.7 and 2.0. I do not personally have the lens, but found this when I was shopping around.

I had the Nikon 70-200 VR 2.8 and used it with both the 1.4 and 1.7 TC. It always provided me with great image quality. Probably one of the best lenses I ever owned. Sorry I sold it. |

I have both and honestly have never used it to try, but I could if you wanted me too. However I am currently selling a 300MM F2.8 lens if you are interested. :D

I had one with 1,7 TC. Whole thing felt to brittle. Could not lug it around for nature shoots where things happen quickly, including bumping into things. Sometimes you have to move quickly to get a shot or get the hell out of there. I went for the 80-400 VR. Tricky to use at times, but not as brittle. With the d3x lots of cropping available and can sharpen by image resizing.
Oh, almost forgot... mono pods, damn thing has nearly killed me twice. I use it now to toss in the path of bears, cougars and bull moose. I figure if it almost kills me, by tripping me up, when I need to get away... should be the same for them. FEAR the monopod.....

2.0 TC with 70-200VR
Right out of the camera. They were way off shore stuck in the ice for a while.
I use the combo for sports shots.
Should use a tri or monopod.
I balanced the camera on my car door. |

Thanks for the responses, spiritualspatula I saw that website and it was good information as well. I Like the photos of action taken with the TC's attached, it seems that just as the website spiritualspatula posted states... the 1.4tc is wicked sharp. But the 1.7 and 2.0 are still stellar performers on the VRII edition. I may just have to get one :)
Thanks!
