Whether it is a challenge on its own or an exclusive open challenge choose one type thing....

Take a photograph of something interesting which is Horizontal (Please stretch the imagination further than just the horizon!) or Vertical.

How about "Make a vertical shot of a horizontal subject, OR a horizontal shot of a vertical subject."

THAT oughta' shake things up a little :-)

Oh sure, Robert gets a new hot laptop AND his wording used UNEDITED as the challenge the week after it is suggested. Favoritism or what?

Ya, OK it's really Caz's challenge, but Robert is more fun to harass.

The more I think about this, the less sense it makes.

Hmm .. anyone got an example of what a shot like that would look like? Not quite sure what it means :(

I don't interpret this challenge as a landscape in portrait challenge. The description says nothing about landscape or portrait. It says "Make a vertical shot of a horizontal subject, OR a horizontal shot of a vertical subject." In my view, a horizontal landscape, even in portrait orientation, is still horizontal. Now if it was rotated ninety degrees, it would be a vertical shot, even if it were still in landscape orientation.

That's an interesting take. I just might try doing one that way :-)

cloudsme, that is how I was reading it too .. not just like taking a shot of a person (which would normally be done vertically) horizontally - sort of like .. I take a photo of a tree trunk, cropping off the top and bottom.

Now the tree truck is vertical and what I do is rotate it 90 degrees to make the tree trunk horizontal. I now have an shot of the truck which is horizontal.

skewsme, you might be right in your interpretation too .. I might just sit this one out and enjoy voting.

The question is - will the voters view it the same? Which of course no one can answer and I don't care as long as I like it ~~~ good challenge if my understanding is correct .. the thought of just doing same old, same old is not half as interesting.

We don't NEED a definitive interpretation, sheesh. The beauty of this challenge is in the different ways it can be approached. It's essentially an abstract concept. Relax, forget about the voters and the score, and let your muse guide you :-)

I agree Bear .. which is why I said - The question is - will the voters view it the same? Which of course no one can answer and I don't care as long as I like it ~~~ good challenge if my understanding is correct .. the thought of just doing same old, same old is not half as interesting.
