Heh, I am in with a shoehorn. Took a picture I liked and searched around until I found a country title that fit.
Barely even advanced editing. Probably won't do great, but I really wanted to enter something again

I have to get mine shot tonight. Out of the zillions of possible song titles, I have a funny feeling that several others will choose the same title I am going for...

Got a back up shot in case my reshoot isn't good but I like the back up as well... Just want to tweak it a bit before I enter...

I most likely will put my title like this...

"Song title - Artist" I assume most people will either do that or something without the artist...

I just think I will like to listen to the song if I don't know it by the name and having the artist helps when it comes to finding it.

I am going to try really hard not to grumble too much when there is a minimal editing challenge, if others don't complain too much about expert. At least on expert you have a choice to use it or not. With minimal there are no other options.

Plus, I almost get giddy with excitement any time one comes around. I have so many ideas floating around in my head and most of them are not possible with regular photography.

Don't get me wrong I don't think there should be a ton of expert editing challenges, but 1 or 2 a month would suit me just fine!

Not much time left for this question: can I use images not made by me as texture?

Yes, but be sure you know what qualifies as a texture. There have been some recent DQ's over that rule.

This thread answers that question, but be very careful that it truly is a texture and not creating something new. There is a fine line. (I just remember reading this on this thread, but I don't know anything so don't take my word for it.)

Thanks for the quick reply. Think I take the gamble.

Yes! Just make sure you do it in overlay mode. It can't look like a picture.

Thanks for the advice!

LOL...this waterdrop was added as a texture using overlay mode. I didn't inquire as to how I could have done anything differently with the drop in order to be legal. I'm not sure if that water drop would have ever been legal as a texture.

To be safe, I'll now only use a photo of a close up of a brick, rock, cracked wood...etc..as a texture.

Probably a good idea. When you use a texture as an overlay, in essence what you're doing is attempting to make your photo appear as a three dimensional object. The texture overlay takes on the role as the surface of the 2D photo. The water drop in your photo doesn't acheive that.

In and very happy with it. May or may not do well but I am quite proud of it.

That's not a texture. That's a picture. That's the problem.

From some of the comments here it seems like some people will be voting on the picture encompassing the meaning of the words of the song chosen. As I understand the challenge the picture just needs to represent the title as quoted here: "Take a photo that illustrates the title of a country song."

So, are we to submit a picture that illustrates just the title or the whole meaning of the song? Just wondering what everyone's take is on the challenge.

I went with the title. Only because I don't know country music very well and didn't want to have to listen to it to find out what the song is about. I just picked a title off a web site listing country song titles.

I'm going by the challenge description -- illustrate the title. I'm not a country song fan, so I wouldn't know the meaning of the song anyway.

So I'm glad it's just about the title. I don't want to listen to 72 songs. :)

Mine is the title, but also the meaning of the song.

I knew the lyrics too but the image is all about the title as per challenge description.
