The scandal with the guy who tweeted his private parts, those that live in America, do you really care? It shows poor judgment on his part, but if he was getting the job done at the office, do you really care if he makes some bad calls in his personal life? I mean the last few presidents all did drugs of some kind. I'm not part of the American community so you may have other reasons for not liking this guy, but using this to push him out of office seems a bit cheap.
If guy A was doing his job but frequented the local nightclubs picking up ladies and doing body shots every other night, all I care about in all that is IS HE DOING HIS JOB. His private life is something I don't really care about. If the private life starts seeping into the work life, then I've got issues.

People here tend to judge people by what they do. If he makes bad descisions in his personal life then what garantees us that he won't make bad descisions in congress?
He showed poor judgement. |

The bottom line is no different than it's been forever. People that have power use that power to get the things they want. Clinton liked sex (and this is the one most men in politics go for). Bush liked his coke/alcohol. You've got your people who condemn those in power for the things they do in their private lives (as long as they are from a different political party than their own, though they could care less what the ones they voted for do), and those who don't really care one way or the other. So you look at Weiner and say "with a name like that, how couldn't it have happened?". And it marches on... |

Ha....this guy sent photos of his body and body parts out to "women" on the internet....most or all (im not sure) of who he has never met. This is very bad judgement. To top it off, he lies time after time after time at a news conference. This guy i a dope and I would not vote him back in. However, a poll taken in his district shows that 59% would vote for him again.

I don't follow politics closely, so I am unfamiliar with this particular congressman and his behavior the rest of the time. My general opinion, however, is to just let the guy be. There are more important things to worry about. We all have lapses in judgement from time to time and these things are usually forgotten quickly for Joe Average. The only difference is that he is a public figure and so this will get dredged up by his opponents in every election from here on. Makes for a great gooey wad of mud for them to sling at him.

Oh...and he admitted he did not meet these "women" to whom he sent the pics. His real trouble will be when a 14 year old turns out to be one of the "women".

We (Australia) had a Prime Minister (about to be elected, from memory) who was busted at a strip club. As a country, we pretty much said 'ah, whatever, it's what blokes do, who cares?' and carried on. If anything, it made him more popular.
...and that sums it up for Aussies really, when I think about it! :) |

I love how we have to protect the 14-year-olds from sexual predators who might send them a revealing photo, but the news makes the photos available to everyone and that's okay. |

If they had a policy to kick out every civic leader, politician or representative that was doing something kinky, controversial, sexual or of ill moral in their private life then there wouldn't be anyone left to run the country. The only difference is is that this guy got caught. Everyone's get some type of skeleton in the closet. How many religious leaders have had their downfall. Just because we put these people up on pillars and judge them to be of high moral fibre to represent our best interests doesn't mean that they should be sinless to qualify for the job. If I wanted to run for politics but I had a sexual fetish should I just not run because someday it will get the better of me? Maybe if we(the media)didn't stink noses into every aspect of these peoples lives then society could get something done. Everyone is corrupt in one way or another, it's just being human. |

I don't really care, mostly I feel bad for his wife, but as I see it, he has no obligation to honestly answer reporters' questions about his personal affairs. It's not like he was being questioned under oath and nothing he did was illegal.
Mostly, I think the media is sensationalizing this out of prurience. |

Do I care what he does on the internet, whether or not he includes his namesake? No.
Do I care he lied repeatedly? Yes.
Am I at all surprised he lied? No.
I have more respect for Tiger Woods because at least he showed remorse. Politicians, again and again show no remorse for blatantly lying to the American people. It sets a very bad trend.

The old adage says that character is reveals when nobody is looking. This guy doesn't strike me as having much character.

Has it gotten so bad that you don't even expect such common behavior as telling the truth? We are truly circling the drain if that is the state of affairs. |

Why does he, or anyone for that matter, owe people the truth about their personal matters, even if embarassing portions of them surface publically? I'd be extremely offended if some random person started asking me about my private matters and I'd lie if I felt like it.
I'm sure that all of you are 100% truthful in every aspect of your personal relations.

And of course, you'd ALWAYS tell the truth to any question, no matter how personal, wouldn't you?
If some guy you barely know started asking you about something like "How many times a week do you and your wife have sex?" and "Does she like it better on top or from behind?" you'd perk right up with the answers, right? |

Yes! And deny, deny, deny...
(RikRok)
Honey came in and she caught me red-handed
Creeping with the girl next door
Picture this, we were both buck naked
Bangin?on the bathroom floor
RikRok:but she caught me on the counter
Shaggy:it wasn't me
RikRok:saw me banging on the sofa
Shaggy:it wasn't me
RikRok:I even had her in the shower
Shaggy:it wasn't me
RikRok:she even caught me on camera
Shaggy:it wasn't me
RikRok:she saw the marks on my shoulder
Shaggy:it wasn't me
RikRok:heard the words that I told her
Shaggy:it wasn't me
RikRok:heard the screams getting louder
Shaggy:it wasn't me
RikRok:she stayed until it was over

- Maybe politicians should ask these type of personal questions back to the reporters and put them in the hot seat about their own private affairs.
- Maybe journalists should spend more time looking at the effectiveness of those in power and what they do or don't accomplish and put that in print. Then at least we would know what's really important and it would make the elected officials more accountable to their public work.
BTW some of the comments here are HILARIOUS! Like tagging an eyeroll! Har, Har! |

but you are talking about two different issues. Whether it is reasonable to ask questions like this to politicians is quite different than whether it is reasonable for us to expect a politician to have an honest character. Personally, I do think it is relevant. If a person is found to be in breach of contract, don't you think it is at least germane to the question of whether they are likely or not to breach another contract?
EDIT: my spelling is terrible

We expect politicians to be persons of character. We get angry when they are not.
We don't expect celebrities to be persons of character. We get the popcorn when they are not.
Like it or not, politicians are held to a higher standard. They are making decisions for us, as a general rule we need to demand they have upright character, or at the very least not downright corrupt. |

Two different things. Most people can easily separate their work life from their home life. If you were sleeping around on your wife, it wouldn't make you less of a doctor, would it? You'd still be able to perform at your job because one has nothing to do with the other. And if you got caught out in public and lied about it to protect your wife's privacy, it still wouldn't make you less of a doctor. That's the whole thing in a nutshell. Now if he'd been caught, and lied about taking bribes to develop a condo complex on protected wetlands, or caught embezzling, that would be a whole different story. |

yeah seriously, i dont get involved in politics but this has been going on since time out of mind, there is just more ways for them to get in trouble now. In days gone by it still happened it's just that the media never dared report it back then.....Look at JFK, it's common knowledge that him AND his brother were knockin boots with Marylin Monroe but people still act like they walked on water.
