I was testing for an outdoor wedding I'm shooting later today, and I noticed the rays of light in the clouds. I thought they made a nice backdrop for this shot of my wife and her sister. Shot with the 28-105 lens and internal flash, very rough dodging and burning.

I hope I can get something like this with the bride & groom!

cool shot! you could always use it as a BG for the bride & groom if you can get the rays at the time of the wedding shots! Good luck on your job!

Excellent job maintaining enough light on your subjects while really bringing out the rays. Did you use a fill flash or any additional lighting?

Hope the wedding goes well!

I've been trying to get shots like this recently myself -- got a good one (although pointing in the opposite direction!) last May.

I managed to snag a couple of shots of those unusual Crepuscular Rays one morning as the sun was rising. One of my shots was published by Earth Science POTD (NASA Co-Sited website).

(Second shot looks like it there is a lake there - it was the roof of my car, shot from the side of the freeway. No tripod that day)

They only last a minute, so be prepared.

Wow, those are very unusual. I haven't seen individual rays reflected off the bottom of the clouds like that ... more often they are illuminating a mist or thin cloud while passing through.

Say, that might be a good challenge theme! Make a photograph where clouds are a prominent feature of the composition.

A great place to see and understand all sorts of these things is the Atmospheric Optics website.

PS. There is a photo of mine showing sundogs over the SF Bay there.
