So, when(if) we ever have a seascape challenge, will people be entering a lot of landscapes? |

I had a seascape I could have shot but thought 'land'scape would not allow a 'sea'scape.
After having voted on the images I now wish I had gone and shot the image and entered the challenge.
Darn..... |

Thanks! Lo and behold, most of the entries were seascapes. Imagine that! Guess there were no accessibility issues with bodies of water. |

To me, seascapes are a subset of landscapes. So all seascapes are landscapes, but not all landscapes are seascapes.

That was my previous attitude, also. But, I've changed my mind. Before now, I was under the impression we should include seascapes in "landscape" challenges because of the paucity of opportunities to photography ocean scenes. Logistically, I had presumed a large percentage of people were distant from the surf. Evidently, there is no shortage of oceanfront opportunities (based on the flood of recent images I've voted on) and "seascapes" should be considered its own category. Maybe "landscapes" should be a subset of "seascapes"? But, you already know how my mountains would fare in a "seascape" challenge.

I find I can't agree with "So all seascapes are landscapes, but not all landscapes are seascapes." (sorry Yo_Spiff)
Because I really do agree with... "But, you already know how my mountains would fare in a "seascape" challenge." from hahn23
Edit: I'm also really having trouble with various definitions of 'minimal'.

I agree, any natural scenery is a landscape, no matter what else is included... definition #2. (Fine Arts & Visual Arts / Art Terms) a painting, drawing, photograph, etc., depicting natural scenery

I pretty much think that anything not man made can be a "landscape." Oceans, lakes, rivers, ponds, mountains, trees, etc. If you start putting buildings and people in the scene then it is no longer a landscape. Just my opinions on the subject. |

How much less "LAND" can ya get, you doofus? :-)

I humbly submit this prior opinion on what constitutes LANDscapes..... |

Yes, it strains credulity to call an image with only sea, sky and manmade things a landscape. I mean, "Do I look like I just fell off the turnip truck?" Evidently, yes! |

I think it is unfair to undermine entries with this discussion. |

...but it's perfectly acceptable to undermine [future] entries with discussion PRIOR to submission??? |
