Correct. You can also change the sharpen setting in your camera before taking the picture. |
Can the fact that we are allowed to sharpen more than once be added to the challenge rules?
And just a question, why was my ticket never answered but you answered the question in the forum?

Arrrrgh!! I just spent all afternoon shooting for the Light on White challenge and settled on my "best" shot. Then I realized that I had erased the original file from my camera before saving it to my hard drive without using the Photoshop Elements downloader.
I shoot in RAW 98% of the time, so I normally never have to worry about validation of my original files that have been downloaded by the PSE downloader. In fact, I started todays shoot in RAW and had to discard a batch of shots. My normal process for a "home studio" (and I am using the term very loosely) shoot is to take some shots, download them to my computer for inspection, then if I'm not happy go back and take more shots. Rinse and repeat. In between shoots I reformat my camera memory card so that I don't have to wait for files to be read over again by the computer. But did I use Explorer to save the jpegs off of my camera after each shooting session today? Noooo!
Of course I have completely disassembled my set-up, so now I either have to go with one of the last shots that are still on my camera or set up again in the next couple of days and try to recreate the shot that I liked the best.
I may just sit this one out. Doh!

I made three mistakes when shooting for this challenge. I'll try to re-shoot. I'll mention the mistakes here, in case it helps someone about to shoot for this challenge.
1. My camera's viewfinder shows 95% of what the sensor captures. So, the edges of the image were 5% more inclusive than I expected. Some things on the edges of the "uncroppable" image are distractions. I should have allowed for this when capturing the JPG image.
2. I should have bracketed exposures. The camera was set to "evaluative metering" and it did its job well. But, I wanted a somewhat different exposure. And, I couldn't see the problem in the field on the display.
3. The sensor should have been cleaned before this challenge. It's only one dust bunny, but it's a distraction.

I have to reshoot as well, tho for different reasons, I find that whites display so different on my camera, to my laptop to my computer (even using that spdyer3 thing). So now I have to redo it as I didnt like how it showed up when I was about to upload... :/

I would not rely on the display on the back of the camera to detemrine how things look - I would recommend using the histogram instead - this will give you a much better idea if your whites are over or underexposed. |

This is a very good read on them. This is critical in helping you understand whether your images are properly exposed.

The new announcements wet my appetite..I think I'll try to shoot for this challenge if I have time...somewhere between work, grad class, softball league, golf league, and hockey league...I should find time to shoot and edit a sub 5 shot. |

Don't edit it otherwise you will be DQ'd - this is a minimal edit challenge. |

I dont mean to raise a stink, but I don't see why our challenges have to be segregated like they are now. We have one challenge for the lights and one challenge for the colored. Its 2011 people, this shouldnt be an issue anymore.

f/8 aperture size helped me. f/4 was too narrow a DOF for the subject. f/16 showed a few distracting dust spots. So, a middle aperture was my solution. I don't normally use f/8, but it's a fine aperture size.

That was hard work but I'm in. I don't think my subject matter is DPC friendly, but it was an interesting exercise. |

LOL. I grabbed a lucky shot about half an hour ago and thought, hmmm, this might be cool for Light on White. I've got an hour to spare! While working it up I think to myself, "I'd better go make sure this is advanced editing..."
DOH!
Well, I don't think I'm gonna be entering the shot... |
