Obama said info gained from Gitmo prisoners was used to track a courier and ultimatly to the compound. If this is true, how did this info come about? Kalied Shiek Mohammand is one of the informants. Isn't he the one that Eric Holder wanted to drag to New York to try in court? If someone is to be tried in court, do they not get a lawyer and all rights that Americans have...including the right to remain silent?

Does anyone think that any Enhanced Interrogation techniques were used to get him to talk about the courier? In my opinion, I don't think he would have given up the info with the promise of a Coke and a TV.

How about you?

Much food for thought here i think. From Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Chris Hedges.

And he quotes Nietzsche to save K10DGuy from having to come back to do it.

Wow...I'm glad you posted that link. I read it and have come to terms that the US was wrong in it's response to the 9/11 terror attacks. After reading this, I can now finally say that Obama was an IDIOT for killing Osama bin Ladin. What the hell was Obama thinking? Didn't he know Osama was just a figurehead like HITLER ?!

Obama, I read the speech by Chris Hedges and while I did cheer the death of Osama bin Ladin 20 hours ago, Mr. Hedges has turned me around and got my head clear. YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE KILLED OSAMA....but you can't go back....so be ready to pay the price of retaliation by the REAL leaders of Al queda.

It's the right quote too ;)

I have one here from some anonymous source, if I may:

I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy.

I know it shall fall upon many a deaf ear, but we needn't only have one view of things here.

*ETA*: Apparently this quote was falsely attributed to MLK Jr., so I have amended it.

Um...didn't mean i as a trap of any sort. you've got the wrong end of the stick there. I agree with many, not all, of the points in the article and thought it was interesting to share. I just thought i was funny that you were the first to reply in such a predictable way judging by your previous posts. No need to get yourself all upset. Day of celebration remember. you don't want to spoil that.

Come on bro...after the events of last night, can you really say you agree with ANY of that article?

Well I rejoice at the death that Obama had a hand in last night. I may never agree with Obama again, but to let this raid happen was the RIGHT thing to do.....and right after that he had US Sailors anoint the body and give it a Muslim service in order that he may pass to see Allah.

I have one here from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, if I may:

Were that to happen, Obama might as well step down immediately. I'd say the US were 100% certain it was him they killed, they can't afford to make that sort of mistake.

An intelligent foe would consider this idea. He'd then hold back at least one video from each session.
Move said video to a safe place. Then when OBL is killed, his cohorts wait a few weeks, then release it. LOL

Of course for those of you who think OBL was buried at sea, according to Muslim traditions I've got
some high quality swampland just down the road I'd like to sell you. I suspect he resides in a freezer
locker on-board some aircraft carrier for the time being. He's probably got company too!

CNN reported Osama's body was buried at Sea. Why would the US do that?

My geography is pretty snafu'd but if he was killed in Pakistan, why schlep his body to a ship, and then why bury it at sea rather than preserve it for verification?

If the body is at sea, what physical evidence do we have he was actually killed? Of it someone was actually killed, that it was Osama? Why isn't this notion being mentioned by the (conspiracy) press?

Not sayin', I'm just sayin'.

As mentioned, he was buried at sea so that there would be no "shrine" to the great mujahadid.

Also, taking the body allows for closer examination and confirmation of his identity while in a safe location.

Okay, so lets say I buy the no shrine argument ... why so quickly? So quickly, in fact, that it might lead to questions about ... why so quickly?

The guy who broke the story (in real time) was an IT engineer who was up late using Twitter ...

"There are helicopters overhead -- unusual"

"Now there's a big explosion"

etc.

The poor guy now has to deal with over 25,000 people following him on Twitter, and is deluged with interview requests. He does have a sense of humor however ... (a close paraphrase)

"Now I'm sorry I covered this event live unwittingly. Had I realized what was going on I would have covered it wittingly."

Also, as Dave Ross points out in today's commentary, Obama was the only Presidential candidate to state that if bin Laden was in Pakistan and the Pakistanis would get him, he would send in US forces to do the job. Can this at least go into the column of campaign promises kept?

In the Muslim (and Jewish) tradition the burial rites are to be carried out within 24 hours. The US performed a ritual Muslim burial ceremony insofar as was possible.

"There's a fair amount of this rhetoric bouncing around this morning, and it's not especially surprising -- Republicans aren't going to credit President Obama, regardless of merit, so it stands to reason they'll try to bring George W. Bush into the picture.

"If this is going to be a new GOP talking point, we might as well set the record straight.

"In March 2002, just six months after 9/11, Bush said of bin Laden, "I truly am not that concerned about him.... You know, I just don't spend that much time on him, to be honest with you."

"In July 2006, we learned that the Bush administration closed its unit that had been hunting bin Laden.

"In September 2006, Bush told Fred Barnes, one of his most sycophantic media allies, that an "emphasis on bin Laden doesn't fit with the administration's strategy for combating terrorism."

"And don't even get me started on Bush's failed strategy that allowed bin Laden to escape from Tora Bora.

"I'm happy to extend plenty of credit to all kinds of officials throughout the government, but crediting Bush's "vigilance" on bin Laden is deeply silly.

"Update: Donald Rumsfeld added this morning that Obama "wisely" followed Bush's lead. He either has a very short memory, or he's lying and hopes you have a very short memory."

The latter? How else can you explain a country, which likes to prides itself as the beacon for freedom while at the same time ignoring the fact that we're responsible for installing and supporting more murderous leaders (Osama and Saddam included) than anybody else since the start of the Cold War?

The facts are:
Gitmo is still open
Military Tribunals are on again (after a farsical NY venue)
We still have forces in Iraq (with an option of staying even longer)
Afganistan is ongoing and escalating
We are still attacking with Drones
and we still have Rendition...

Not exactly what was campained on - so yes, Obama is continuing Bush's policies. And rightly so.

Congrats to President Obama for making the call. Kudos to those that did the deed.
