Is it just me or are there an exceptionally low number of comments being left for this particular session of challeges? I am assuming it is because of the holidays but was just wondering if this phenomenon was particular to me....Happy New Year folks!

I know I have been busy, but I have noticed that there have not been many comments. I hope it is due to the holidays. We shall see.

definately - I have 124 votes and only one comment. I am hoping the low comments the past couple of weeks have been due to the holidays.

I think ever since comments haven't been anonymous, the numbers have been low. It seems if a comment is made and the photographer doesn't agree, they will send an email to the commentor trying to sway his or her thinking. Then, of course, the photographer is no longer anonymous and the whole concept of voting is jeopardised. If for an example I say I don't happen to like the lighting of a picture, I really don't want to have an email from the photographer saying the lighting was like that because.... and would I please have another look at it. It doesn't change the fact that I don't like the lighting in the photo.

I think it's a holiday thing... Folks barely have time enough to vote, much less comment... The only emails I've received from comments I've left have been answers to questions I've left. I haven't had anyone try to sway my vote. If they did, they'd get an unpleasant surprise :)

Spiller, I want to say you may have a point but I can't until the holidays are out of the way. I think you have a point though (assuming the next post-holiday challenge gives us the same low comment numbers). I leave comments when the image moves me to. But I really like anonimity because it kept the voting true to form until the results were finalized. I really would like for it to revert to anonymous commenting.

I would also like to have it revert back to anonymous commenting. Then it's up to the commentor if they would like to leave their name or not.

It doesn't matter to me which ever way it is. I always sign my comments anyway. Why? Because I don't think anyone should say anything they would be ashamed to have someone know they said, either at that very moment or later. Beside, how can you vote without thoughts in your head? All comments are is transfering these thoughts to writing. Besides if we don't tell them the "why" they won't learn. I know they can see them at the end, but at that time I'm so busy reading everybody else's comments, trying to learn everything I can. Just because they e-mail you doesn't mean you have to change your score. But sometimes things have been cleared up for me by their e-mail and I was totally wrong about my score. It didn't bother me at all to change the vote. Guess what, it has gone down after an e-mail. If it's just my likes or opinion I leave it right where I put the score. Many times what I've said or a photo I took has been misunderstood. Upon explanation things have been cleared up and seen differently. TG. But then, this is just my opinion.

I wasn't around when comments were anonymous but I like it when I leave a question as a comment and the the person messages me back explaining it or just thanking me for my input.

I agree entirely with PTL. I have always signed my comments, so the change to non-anonymity brought no adjustment to me. If you have something to say, stand up and say it. You own your own words from the moment they are spoken, so why wait a week for them to be revealed as you?

I have never received an email asking me to change my vote, but I have had questions answered and clarifications made.

I would say to those that DO receive emails based on their comments, (a) you don't have to read them; and (b) if you DO read them, you don't have to react one way or the other.

As always, your mileage may vary, and your right to disagree is assured.

I get lots of emails from photographers, and I don't mind at all. I don't think I have gotten one single complaint about what I have to say about their shot, even if it isn't so good. The emails I get are thanking me for the comments. I don't mind it either way, signed or not signed.

Remember that even if our usernames are known, no one can make us do anything we don't want to -- like change a score.

I dont mind people writing to me about my comment (unless they are abusive) because I know that I'm under no obligation about it one way or the other.

Remember that we have the right to give any score in the range to a picture, and to leave a comment that says anything as long as it is not abusive. No one can tell us our vote is 'wrong'. It is our opinion, and that is what this site is based on.

Good luck :)

I know in my case, I haven't commented as much because of the holidays. I am doing good to just get the voting done. I start back to work next week and anticipate getting back into my "schedule."

I do not think whether it is anon. or not makes a lot of difference in the number. If anything discourages comments, I think it is threads that start periodically about how comments are lame and the commenters don't know what they are talking about, blah, blah, blah. I know after reading a couple of threads like that, I suddenly am not motivated to tell what I like or don't about a picture. Instead of saying, "i really like this picture," or "I don't understand this picture; I can't wait to see how you did it," or other such "non-helpful" comment, I just don't leave one. Gives me more time to vote, and that way I don't waste the photographer's or forumist's time. :-) Like someone's sig says "but that's just me."

I agree. I like the anticipation and mystery of the week. Along with that, I want to vote and comment,,, and not have to justify myself all week...

I will get to comment before the week is over... I can only vouch for myself.. but I think most people are very involved with the holidays...
Stay tuned! :-)
