I currently have this as my regular tripod, but I need something that will travel much easier. Lugging around that beast on planes has become out of the question; it's far too large let alone quite heavy.

1. Primarily use tripods for ultra long exposures, so I need something sturdy.

2. Not interested in a tabletop or Gorillapod, because I need flexibility in height.

I was seriously considering this tripod, but I am open to suggestions along these lines.
Any suggestions for something that will fit the bill?

You're not likely to like my suggestion... but, after opining the weight of mine, I realized the only way to really go light with a full size tripod that has any strength was to get a quality carbon fiber one, like one of the Gitzos.
This guy is a beast, and only weighs in at 3 lbs.

If you're concerned about packed size, get a 4 section, they are more compact.
This one would be another option, weighs a bit less and is smaller.

Here's the thing with tripods- You can have two of the following, but not three- Cheap, Light, Sturdy.

There are other options than Gitzo, but they're all expensive. But then... it doesn't make much sense to support several thousand dollars of gear with $50. Skimping on a tripod is tempting, but a waste in the end.

Yup!

I have a Manfrotto 055MF4 Carbon Fiber Tripod and it travels great, you can hang your camera bag to the built-in attachment to weigh it down for more stability too.

Google the Benro Travel Angel tripods. I have one, it folds into a very compact size, and yet is a very sturdy tripod--it is my regular tripod, now, taking the place of a very pricey gitzo. Mine was about 250 bucks, carbon fiber, and is of very high quality.

What kind of camera rig are you using? The weight of your gear makes a difference in making a good tripod choice.
