The one thing that was holding me back from buying the lensbaby has finally been addressed: no longer is aperture controlled by switching out discs, it's now simply a dial on the front of the lens!

Caution: The only optic that has the internal diaphragm is the Sweet 35. The Composer Pro is just an upgrade to a metal ball and smoother focus.
You can mount the Sweet 35 optic on any of their products that support the Optic Swap system.

A lensbaby composer is the next lens on my wish list... I guess it's about time to consider one. I'm not sure that I want the sweet 35 though. I'd find myself shooting with the largest aperture available all the time with that lens anyway so I'm not sure I'd want to spend the extra money on the sweet 35 system. I'd also probably prefer the 50mm focal length to the 35...

I've been thinking hard about one too... when I look at spending $400 though, it gives me pause. I do think that this would be an occasional-use lens for me, and that's a pretty high price to pay for occasional use.
I do like the idea of having direct control of the aperture, but I can also see that the drop-in system has some flexibility that the built-in diaphragm does not, for instance creating apertures that are not circular to create artistic effects.
I like the 35mm focal length for this type of lens. I think the moderately wider angle of view is well suited to the effect.

I might use it more than occasionally. This lens system has evolved into something that is actually worthwhile now rather than just a novelty as it was in its infancy. The glass optics have improved the image quality that come from these lenses dramatically. I love the effect that can be created with it.
