Okay guys, I need a little help here. I know this is going to sound like a tremendously stupid question, but here it goes. My wife bought me this softbox for my birthday back in Feb.

Anyway, what type of stand do I need for this softbox? I'm looking to do this on the cheap :) Its got a funky kinda head on the mount, so I wasn't sure what I need and I don't want to buy the wrong thing. Thanks in advance :) |

I can't see the "funky kinda head on the mount" but it doesn't look unusual to me. It looks like what I have on my umbrellas and soft boxes. I got mine and my stands to go with them at Midwest Photo Exchange.
The light stands on this page that are midway down and priced from $34 to $73 would probably do the job for that sized soft box. |

| I agree looks like the standard stud on any lightstand would fit it. |

| yea, looks like a standard light stand mount to me, too. You might also look at amazon, search for light stands. Cowboy Studio light stands can be inexpensive. I'd avoid the temptation to go for the 6' lightstand, as it isn't tall enough for some situations. 8-10 ft is a nice size for many uses. Alien Bees light stands are well made and reasonably priced. B&H is a good source to check, as well. |

If you are ubber cheap you might want to see what you can build out of PVC tubing. Some guys are selling this PDF on Tinker Tubeson line but it has been around for years before they started selling the work of others. If you decide to build a stand sand bags (or filling the tube assembly itself with bird shot) keeps things stable.
