Is he a trained geologist?

Well, he's got a degree, but I don't know if you'd call him trained..... LOL... Then again aren't all trained geo-folks just completely nutz?

They're still coming. That's three in fifteen minutes, to add to many more that I've felt today. But I'd better have my bath now ... real quick, like. ;-Þ

Thinking of you. I experienced a 7.4 earthquake myself 30 years ago. This is huge, I did not know that 8.9 was possible. Take care David, as much as one can in these conditions. Keep us posted please! Good luck. All Japan needs it.

How close are you to these nuclear power plants? Maybe you should run now!

Well, I have slightly more confidence the Lunar-tics are correct than man is the cause of global warming.

News: Japanese to release radioactive vapour into atmosphere in desperate bid to prevent nuclear reactor exploding after systems fail at plant

That is a disgracefully irresponsible and ignorant headline, and clearly deliberately so given the comparatively mild content of the actual story. ....

Have the news updates softened your view?

In the same vein I have just seen a TV report showing a wave of mud and water flowing through a Japanese town while the news anchorgirl voice over breathlessly said it swept across the countryside at 800km per hour. In the film some cars were visible outrunning the wave; cars apparently traveling faster than 800km per hour.

Tsunamis can move that fast in deep water, but slow down when they hit land.

It seems the nuke plants are over-shadowing the real disaster of the tsunami victims. Still many people not being able to find loved ones, still people going with little food and water. And to add to all the silliness, the local city hall will only accept NEW clothing as donations, nothing old. AS IF the people freezing their asses off up there care if the blankets are new or old. I personally don't have anyone I know missing (I called minutes after the earthquake was felt) but I do have friends who still haven't found family members. Our church plans on holding 2 concerts to raise money. Japan hasn't received the kind of donations you would normally see for a disaster stricken country. Maybe it's because Japan isn't a 3rd world country...but donations are needed.

I'm far from the big quake, but smaller quakes are slowly heading down the coast.
