I usually put what my challenge shot is, so it gives me a chance to see what I can change in the picture before the voting begins.

This would be a nice challenge.

I always try to have mine this way, or at least a solid color. It's the only way to accurately edit photos, and whenever there's a desktop picture I can never find any of my icons ... :(

Well, it violates a whole pile of editing rules, but the words are important to understanding the image, so if that's what you meant....

Yeah, grey or black, I rarely put a solid 'color' up. Mine is 18% grey right now because I was re-calibrating my monitor and it is easiest for me to set the gamma with the gamma chart as the desktop image surrounded by grey. I have removed the chart, but the color remains -- for now.

I don't like a cluttered desktop so I hide all the icons and then open the desktop folder as a toolbar on the taskbar. It just works well for me.

This is a nice one. Leaves room enough for the icons to be visible, yet is a pleasant scene.

I think a challenge for this would be fun.

I use different things, my photos mostly, but also drawings my kids make using the paint program in windows. :)

I agree with the icons part. I have been using something that's not too bright. This is the first time I am using my own picture for background. I used to use a lot of black and white images though.

Nice idea. Shame it uses up around 25% of the CPU on my Athlon XP 2500+.

You've got the settings set to crazy :) It'll still look good and a ton faster if you ease off on them.

I use this. It is a version of my "Abstract" entry.

I'm using a version (minor crop) of:

As the original was 2240x1680, a 1600x1200 bmp was easy.

Your making me home sick Brad. I'm from Imperial Beach.

I've been in PA for 10 years now and haven't been back to visit.

Nice idea but sounds like another free study to me. Where is the challenge in that?

I use webshots. I downloaded about 35 of them and it changes every hour. I added some of my own to give myself a bit of variety. :)

I'd recommend checking out digital blasphemy.com
Lots of good digital art images (there is a free gallery in there, just have to look for it). These make great desktop wallpapers

How do you get it to change every hour? Do you have some software to do this? I've been wanting to do this for ages.

Edit: Oh hang on, I just visited the site and it all makes sense now :)

This is one of my favs, I now wish I took a bit more time with the photo itself.

I cycle through shots of my boy and my challenge entry, but just can't stop going back to this one. Not that I see the desktop that often, anyway. (C:

I have used this image, Buds and Blossoms, as a desktop wallpaper on and off. I like it enough to keep coming back to it when I get tired of others. It looks a lot better at full screen than the thumbnail. If anyone would care to give it a try just PM me your e-mail addy and I'll send you a 1024 x 768 file of it. It's 634KB.
